Google released the Pixel Watch last year, and it’s about to release its successor, the Pixel Watch 2, in its next major hardware event. But some of you might remember that these weren’t technically Google’s first steps in the wearable market. Fitbit, one of the most popular makers of fitness devices, has been owned by Google since 2021, an acquisition that provided a lot of the momentum for Google to release the Pixel Watch. Now, the Fitbit app is getting a major revamp.
Fitbit is officially launching a redesigned version of its app now, offering a comprehensive overview of your health and wellness. This redesign features three distinct tabs in an attempt to improve navigation — letting you check your daily goals and metrics, discover inspiration and guidance, and access personal information regarding your accomplishments and progress.
Under the “Today” tab, you can review your top statistics, providing a clear visualization of your health trends over the past day, month, or year through charts, graphics, and icons. These will be tailored to you and what exactly are your personal goals. The “Coach” tab will let you explore a curated selection of workouts and mindfulness sessions — with Fitbit Premium subscribers gaining access to an extended range of content, including HIIT and dance cardio classes. Finally, the “You” tab allows you to customize personal details and goals, manage connections within the Fitbit community, and track your achievements with redesigned badges.
As for the actual looks of the app, it’s now adhering to Google’s Material You design guidelines, which means this will feel right at home with other Google apps. There is no dynamic coloring, however, and instead, the app will remain colored like Fitbit’s signature turquoise. The company also says that security and privacy are paramount in the new app, offering a transparent privacy experience with unified controls to manage your Fitbit data and permissions. More importantly, your Fitbit health and wellness data will remain separate from Google ads data, ensuring no use for ad targeting.
The update is now rolling out, so if you’re a Fitbit user, make sure to check it out now.
