Along with the Edge 40 Neo, Motorola also took the wraps off a couple of new Moto G handsets that feature 120Hz displays, and 50MP main camera. The Moto G84 is the pick of the two phones with its 6.5-inch OLED screen, 50MP and 8MP rear cameras, and 12GB of RAM while the Moto G54 sports an LCD display, a 2MP secondary rear camera, and 8GB of RAM. Pricing for the Moto G84 comes in at €299/£249 while the G54 is more affordable at €179/£179.
Moto G84
Besides sporting 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM, the Moto G84 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 695 chipset and comes with 256GB of built-in storage (UFS 2.2). The 6.5-inch OLED display features FHD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a 20:9 aspect ratio.
It’s 50MP main camera has OIS and the accompanying 8MP ultra-wide lens with its 118° FoV also takes care of macro photography. A 16MP selfie camera sits in the central punch-hole on the display.
A 5,000mAh battery with 30W TurboPower charging is present, as is support for Bluetooth 5.1, dual-band WiFi, and NFC. Yup, I said NFC. This means that unlike some Moto G handsets, the G84 supports mobile payment apps. In terms of audio, there are a pair of stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, and you’ll also find a 3.5mm audio jack present.
Finally, the Moto G84 can be hap in Midnight Blue, or if the vibrant Viva Magenta and Marshmallow Blue colorways which also sport a vegan leather finish. You can pick up the Moto G84 directly from Motorola’s online store for £299.
Moto G54
Carrying a much cheaper price point, the Moto G54 still brings a lot to the table with its Dimensity 7020 chipset, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of built-in storage. You can augment the storage by 1TB thanks to the inclusion of MicroSD card support.
Like the Moto G84, the G54 also has a 6.5-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate although in this case it’s an LCD panel instead of OLED. FHD+ resolution is still present as the 20:9 aspect ratio.
The Moto G54 also carries the same 50MP main camera with OIS as its higher-specced sibling but a 2MP macro camera is the secondary module. Also the same is the 16MP selfie camera.
While the Moto G54 also has a 5,000mAh battery, charging speed is limited to 15W. Stereo speakers and a 3.5mm audio port are included, as is NFC support which means the phone actually supports mobile payments.
The Moto G54 is available in Midnight Blue, Indigo Blue, Glacier Blue and for those that aren’t fond of blue phones, there’s also a Mint Green finish.
