Verizon Wants More Money From Selected Unlimited Customers

While you check which discount coupons are valid for this week’s grocery shop, you may not have noticed that tech companies are also struggling. In search of some extra cash for its executives and shareholders, Verizon is hitting up some of its older Unlimited customers to help it through the current economic crisis by asking them for more money, per line, per month from March 1st.

According to CNET, Verizon customers signed to older unlimited plans are set to be asked for another $4 per line starting from March 1st. The following plans are affected by this price hike:

  • 5G Get More
  • 5G Play More
  • 5G Do More
  • 5G Start

There’s no truth to the rumor that customers will be moved on to a new plan called 5G Give More. Still, Verizon wants these ‘selected’ customers to sign up for its newer Unlimited Ultimate, Unlimited Plus, and Unlimited Welcome plans. While Verizon raised prices on some of its other plans last year, this new price hike only affects the older plans listed above.

Well, as you might expect, it comes down to money. The 5G Get More/Play More/Do More/Start plans include streaming services such as the Disney bundle or international data roaming at no extra charge. However, if you sign up for one of the newer Unlimited plans, the carrier will ask you to pay an additional $10 monthly for the ‘Perk.’

According to a statement from a Verizon spokesperson, customers on older plans “can easily move to myPlan and take advantage of the network option that works best for them, plus exclusive savings on the entertainment, shopping, and experiences that matter to them, including Disney Plus, Apple One, Netflix, Max, Walmart, and many others.”

The spokesperson didn’t say that these customers will also pay more on these new Unlimited plans to enjoy the perks they already had. They did say that pricing for its newer plans would “remain the same,” although it wasn’t mentioned how long that would be.

It all depends on whether you are happy with your current unlimited plan. If you are, paying an extra $4 per line monthly might be worth it when you take the built-in perks you already enjoy. There’s always the option of shopping around for a better deal with a different carrier if you are lucky enough to enjoy decent coverage from multiple providers.

Verizon isn’t the only carrier raising prices, with T-Mobile having announced it would return to charging $60 monthly for its Home Internet service and AT&T having already added another $0.99 to each Unlimited line every month. The bill increases never seem to stop, whether for utilities, food, or entertainment. Every company wants a bigger piece of your financial pie.
