Galaxy S24 Battery Life & How To Make It Last Longer

It’s hard to make an argument for modern smartphones with battery capacities under 4,000 mAh, and there’s nothing to complain about when things get close to the 5,000 mAh mark. Fortunately, the Samsung Galaxy S24 lineup boasts 4,000, 4,900, and 5,000 mAh batteries in the S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra respectively. But how much battery life do you get out of these, and how can you make them last as long as possible?

A few early reports have come in on the battery life of the Galaxy S24 phones, especially the S24 Ultra. It’s important to keep in mind that these stats are all based on pre-release software and may also not represent real-world usage accurately. But now that you know that, let’s talk.

First off, YouTuber XEETECHCARE tested the S24 Ultra against the S23 Ultra, the Pixel 8 Pro, and the iPhone 15 Pro Max, using an identical drainage test to see how long they’d last. The S24 Ultra came out top, dying after about 11 hours, much better than its predecessor in last place, which gave up after a little over 8 hours. Things are looking good for Samsung.

Using PCMark for Android, the Work 3.0 battery life test gave a score of 13 hours and 50 minutes on the S24, 13 hours and 22 minutes on the S24+, and 15 hours for the S24 Ultra. As expected, the S24 Ultra has the best battery life of the bunch, and YouTuber Mrwhosetheboss reported that he went two full days without a charge.

How Can I Make My Galaxy S24 Smartphone Last Longer?

To get your Samsung S24 to last a lot longer on a single charge, there are quite a few tricks you can adopt to stretch things out. Most of these battery life tips will also work on other Samsung phones with similar features.

Here are some things you can give a shot:

  • We all love high refresh rates, but they consume more battery. Go to Settings > Display > Motion Smoothness and choose Standard to lock your phone to 60 Hz.
  • On the S24+ and S24 Ultra, reduce the screen resolution from QHD+. You can access this from Settings > Display > Screen resolution.
  • Go to Settings > Apps and uninstall or disable apps that you don’t use. These can drain the battery when running in the background.
  • Reduce your screen timeout from Settings > Display > Screen timeout, so your display stays on for a shorter amount of time when you put the phone down.
  • Drop your brightness to the lowest value; screens are a major battery hog. Of course, you can also go to Settings > Display and toggle Adaptive Brightness on. This way, your phone will only use as much brightness as you need.
  • Navigate to Settings > Location and turn off your GPS/Location if it isn’t necessary for your daily use.
  • Opt for Wi-Fi connections over mobile data when possible.
  • Turn off Bluetooth when not in use.
  • These devices have AMOLED screens so black images save battery. Opt for black wallpapers and dark mode in apps.

Samsung devices have a “Protect battery” option in the Battery settings menu that locks the phone’s maximum charge at 85% to extend the battery’s lifespan. There are hints that things may be different with the S24 though.

Tipster Tarun Vats showed off an improved form of this last year, running in One UI 6.1 (which the S24 series has), where you can choose Basic protection: phone can charge to 100% and won’t charge unless under 95%; Adaptive protection: charging pauses at 80% and resumes to 100% right before you wake up; and Maximum protection, which locks the max charge at 80%.

You can also always check which applications are the biggest battery leeches by checking under the graph in the Settings > Battery menu in One UI.

Are you going to be pre-ordering any of the S24 smartphones? If you are, and you already have a Samsung smartphone, you can save a lot with a trade-in deal.
