Tecno Announces Their Intentions To Bring AI Features To HiOS Devices
Tecno is a major smartphone brand in some parts of Africa, Asia, Europe, and South America, though they are yet to penetrate the North American market, so you’ll be forgiven if they’re an unfamiliar name to you.
At MWC 2024, they brought hardware announcements like their concept Phantom Ultimate foldable, but they also brought software announcements, particularly, Tecno AI. This is expected to be built into HiOS, Tecno’s first-party Android skin, and it seems like it will be a big part of the next version of the operating system.
What Features Will Tecno AI Have?
Tecno has given us a lot of insight into the features that their new AI platform is going to come bundled with. They match a lot of the features that you already see on AI-focused smartphones, like Samsung’s Live Translate and the Object Eraser that you see on Pixel and newer Galaxy phones. Whether these will work as well as they do on those other phones (which certainly pack much more powerful chipsets) remains to be seen.
You’ll also get a built-in AI assistant, similar to Gemini, called Ella. It won’t be too hard to get the hang of using Ella because it works exactly the same as ChatGPT does. Simply ask her questions and she’ll answer. You can hold conversations and make requests for image generation, text summarization, and image analysis.
Tecno AI will also be able to use generative AI to help you out here and there. For instance, it’ll come in handy with remastering photographs, and you can even use it to generate AI portraits that align with your region and generate illustrations based on a sketch that you provide.
So overall, Tecno AI says that it can do a lot, many of which you can find on much higher-priced Galaxy phones. The make-or-break point is whether it will be implemented as cleanly though, which we look forward to seeing when the next version of HiOS is official.
Which Devices Can We Expect To Get Tecno AI In The Future
Tecno AI should come to the Tecno devices that launch with the new version of HiOS out of the box, but it isn’t certain whether it’ll come to older phones that eventually get an update to the new firmware.
However, we do know that the Tecno Camon 30 Premier is an upcoming phone of theirs, and we can expect that to be one of the first smartphones to launch with Tecno AI ready to be put to the test.
