Wirecutter also purchased an armless, wide-seated criss-cross chair, which I tested alongside the Pipersong chair. At less than $100, the criss-cross chair is significantly less expensive than the Pipersong chair. The one I got doesn’t sit on casters; I liked that because it didn’t roll away from me, and once I put it in place, it stayed in place. There are versions that come with casters, or they can be added later, if you need. I still wouldn’t recommend this model as your only desk chair, since it also has a fairly low back. Yet it could be used as one of several options, so you could shift and move, depending on the task. I loved sitting in this chair during meetings where I was expected to look attentive and engaged but didn’t really need to participate.
