5G-Advanced sounds like it’ll be pretty sweet for us to get our hands on, since it is advertised to provide peak data rates of 10Gbps and 1Gbps for downloads and uploads respectively, and will supposedly drop latency significantly. Well, the Honor Magic 6 lineup of phones will activate 5G-Advanced support through a software update, as officially confirmed by Honor.

This means that the vanilla Honor Magic 6, the Magic 6 Pro, and the more exotic Magic 6 Ultimate and Magic 6 RSR Porsche Design should all be bestowed with the glory of 5.5G. There’s no exact data given at the moment, but I’ll place my bets on the big update arriving this month, as none of these manufacturers want to seem like slackers.

They’ll Join The Ranks Of Other Chinese Smartphones Getting 5G-Advanced

Honor is far from the first company to inform us that they’ll support 5.5G. Several other Chinese manufacturers have declared their intentions to bring support for this to their flagships through software updates.

For instance, the wave started with the Oppo Find X7 series, the first in line. However, we also know that the Xiaomi 14 Ultra and Vivo’s X Fold 3, X100, and sub-brand’s iQOO 12 lineup will also get OTA updates to deliver the goodness of 5G-A.

As long as your device runs on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 or a MediaTek Dimensity 9300, there’s a chance that your manufacturer could activate support for 5.5G in the future, as these chipsets have modems with hardware support for the 5G-Advanced network standard.

The Honor Magic 6 Devices Are Very Solid Smartphones

When I set my eyes on the Magic 6 phones, I couldn’t help but gush about how beautiful I found them. In a world where smartphones are trying to become as “square” as possible, the Magic 6 and Magic 6 Pro definitely catch the eye, and so do their spec sheets.

Both phones come with Qualcomm’s highest-end chip, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, and start at 12GB and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage. The displays are awesome: 120Hz LTPO, OLED, 1.5K, about 6.8 inches, and have a 5,000-nit peak brightness. Plus, big batteries and fast charging, both wired and wireless.

Did I mention that the Magic 6 Pro has a 180MP telephoto camera with OIS and a variable aperture 50MP main sensor? Yeah, I like these phones a lot, and with 5.5G being added to the mix, it’s hard to say they’re not at the cutting edge spec-wise.
