The Camon 30 Series Is Official, Promising Flagship-Grade Imaging Tech
Tecno’s shiny new Camon 30 series is now official, coming with three models that all try to bring camera performance that’s above their price range. We have the Camon 30, Camon 30 5G, and Camon 30 Pro 5G out already in some markets — Africa is the first stop for Tecno. The Camon 30 Premier 5G, the true flagship option, will come out later this month.
The three models released today have a similar design. The front holds a huge display with a selfie camera cutout, and the back panel is flat with a slightly left-offset circular camera module in the upper third. There’s also a chamfered segment at the side opposite the camera module that has a smooth finish for contrast.
The Camon 30
The Tecno Camon 30 is the baby of the bunch, but it does well for itself despite that. It comes in three colors: Iceland Basaltic Dark, Uyuni Salt White, and Sahara Sand Brown.
The device runs Android 14 with a MediaTek Helio G99 Ultimate, with 256GB of storage that can be configured with either 8GB or 12GB of RAM. The screen is a 6.78-inch FHD+ AMOLED unit that can refresh at up to 120Hz. There’s also a 5,000 mAh battery that can be charged at 45W wired.
The main camera on the back is a 50MP sensor with OIS, and that’s paired with a 2MP depth sensor. The front is also a 50MP unit with autofocus and a dual-color temperature flash.
The Camon 30 5G
The Camon 30 5G is an upgrade over the regular Tecno Camon 30, and not just because it adds 5G capabilities to the mix. This phone comes in the same Iceland Basaltic Dark, Uyuni Salt White, and a unique Emerald Lake Green.
It runs on Android 14 but kicks the MediaTek chip up to a Dimensity 7020 5G. You get a 12GB/256GB option like the vanilla model, but you also get the choice to pair 512GB of storage with either 8GB or 12GB of RAM. The screen is entirely identical: a 6.78″ FHD+ 120Hz AMOLED display. The battery stays at 5,000 mAh, but wired charging gets a boost to 70W.
The 50MP + 2MP setup on the back and the 50MP selfie camera are unchanged from the Camon 30.
The Camon 30 Pro 5G
The Camon 30 Pro 5G is certainly a more exciting option on the spec sheet than the previous two. It also comes in Iceland Basaltic Dark, but gets Alps Snowy Silver as an exclusive option.
Again, you get Android 14, but this time, the MediaTek Dimensity 8200 Ultimate 5G is the high-end chip at work here and the only storage configuration is 12GB/512GB. The display is the same size and resolution as the others, but it pushes the refresh rate to 144Hz. The battery capacity and charging speed remain the same as the Camon 30 5G: 5,000 mAh and 70W respectively.
The selfie camera doesn’t change, but instead of just a 50MP unit with OIS and a 2MP depth sensor, you also get a 50MP ultrawide module.
Pricing And Availability
Currently, there’s no direct quote on pricing for these devices, as Tecno stated that pricing will depend on specific markets, so we’re clearly going to have to wait before hearing anything additional. The phone will come to African markets first, but Tecno expects many of their “70+ global markets” to get the Camon 30 series.
The Camon 30 Premier 5G will show up before the end of the month.
What Features Do All The Camon 30 Devices Share?
The phones share a lot of similarities, so let’s talk about a bunch of them.
First off, they’ll all come with IR blasters (a rare but very welcome feature), Dolby Atmos sound, and an Action Dot that serves an indicator light for numerous functions. The devices also come in both glass and vegan leather options, though it’s not really clear whether each colorway will have two material options. They all also have an Extended RAM feature that lets you double your RAM using part of your storage, which means you can go as high as 24GB of RAM on 12GB models.
On the camera front, the front cameras has eye-tracking autofocus to always help you stay sharp and in focus, and there are numerous AI features expected to make photography on this a lot better, such as AI multi-skin tone imaging tech.
