I’m the type of guy who rushes to download and install an update as soon as it is available and I’m sure many of you are like that too. I know that you can get burned if the new software has a major bug, but fortunately for me, I’ve never fallen victim to that. For people on any of the S23 phones who have rushed to install One UI 6.1, that’s unfortunately not the case.

One UI 6.1 on the S23 smartphones has brought a few annoying problems, but perhaps the most irritating of the bunch is the non-responsive touchscreen. Users have reported that they need to press UI elements multiple times before it registers the action. Needless to say, that would be extremely frustrating — that’s probably a worse fate than having an ultra-slow internet connection.

That’s not the only problem the update seems to have brought to the Galaxy S23 family: users complain of the phone running warmer, issues with the fingerprint scanner, and slower charging. It’s a bug-ridden update for the S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra. However, this problem doesn’t seem to extend to people using One UI 6.1 on the fifth generation of Samsung foldables or folks using the Galaxy Tab S9 series of tablets.

Samsung Says That Google’s “Discover” Feature Is To Blame For This Bug

The good thing is that Samsung has acknowledged the existence of this very annoying touchscreen bug but they don’t seem to be in a position to fix it because they claim it’s not their fault in the first place. Yep, Samsung says that the reason for this bug is because of the Discover feature in the Google app, which lets you see a personalized feed when you swipe to the leftmost on your home screen.

Google is already working on things, thankfully, so it shouldn’t be too long before there’s a fix for the issue. However, pending whenever that happens, Samsung has done the most it can and provided a temporary fix for anyone who is currently dealing with this issue.

The first thing you need to do is update the Google app from the Play Store (if an update is available). After that, you just need to clear the app data, which isn’t complicated at all. Follow these steps on your S23 phone:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Scroll down and select Apps.
  3. Find Google in the list and tap it.
  4. Tap on Storage.
  5. Tap the Clear Data button at the bottom of the screen.

After you’ve done all of this, your phone should hopefully begin registering touches like normal again.
