The Fairbuds Are Fairphone’s Debut Into Wearables; Should Cost Just North Of $150
I’ve never personally met a person using a Fairphone in the wild, but considering the company’s latest smartphone is the Fairphone 5 and it was released late last year, their business model is clearly working nicely for them, so why not expand, and expand they have, with a new attempt at Fairbuds.
These are truly wireless earbuds that claim to provide premium sound and the very best repairability experience of any earbuds on the market. And, they cost €149 (~$160), which isn’t crazy compared to the other entries in the segment. Of course, sound is the major factor with earbuds, but until we get these in our hands, we can’t attest to how good they sound. However, the company has talked a lot about the features, so let’s see what perks the Fairbuds come bundled with.
Designed To Be Tough
Fairphone says part of their aim for the Fairbuds was to make them small yet still make it possible to repair them on your own. They were able to get that done, with a design that is closer to Samsung Galaxy Buds than Apple AirPods.
The buds (not the case though) are IP54 weather-resistant, which means that you should be able to use them in the gym or handle getting caught in the rain while listening to music. Despite needing to be sealed against moisture, they still managed to make it possible for you as a user to open these buds up and change the batteries out. Plus, you get a three-year warranty, so the Dutch company seems to be confident.
Made To Be Repairable: From Buds To Case
Repairability is not a major consideration from manufacturers when making devices, but Fairphone is different, so the Fairbuds were built with that in mind. You’ll be able to replace the batteries in both the buds and the charging case, as well as other parts.
Fairphone released earbuds back in 2021, but they certainly weren’t as repairable as these are, and the company doesn’t shy away from agreeing with this. Progress after all.
Fairphone Claims Premium Sound
We buy earbuds because we want good sound. That’s what they exist for at the core of things. Well, the company claims that these ones are going to sound great. Titanium is a big word in the mobile world right now, and in this case, the titanium coats the 11mm drivers that produce the sound, which should hopefully give you a cleaner and richer sound.
