Vivo X100 Ultra Will Launch May 13th With An Amped-Up Camera

Smartphone companies are set on stealing the headline for themselves with specs that make our mouths drool, but in many categories, there’s not much left to be maxed out. You can’t do better than a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, we’ve seen 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage, and 16GB of RAM (though we’ve seen 24GB before).

The camera department is one aspect where OEMs can continue to push the envelope. It’s not all about megapixel counts (though that can enable a lot of cool stuff), but it is about improving the photo and video experience, and the Vivo X100 Ultra looks intent on that, and we now know it is going to launch on May 13th.

The Vivo X100 Ultra Is Coming On May 13th And Might Be One Of The Best Camera Phones Ever

It’s official. The big boy in Vivo’s X100 lineup will be making a fashionably late entrance to the party in the form of the Vivo X100 Ultra, and if it delivers what the leaks and Vivo have alluded to, then it is about to be one of the best flagships in the world, especially on the camera front.

Vivo has announced that the Vivo X100 Ultra is going to be officially revealed on May 13th, which is just a few days away, so we’re certainly looking forward to that. We’ve learned a lot about the device through leaks, but besides the release date, we have more official info provided by Jia Jingdong, one of the company’s executives, on Weibo.

The phone was nicknamed Thanos, and the company, quite amusingly, took an approach of six “Infinity Stones”, or photography scenarios that they constructed the phone to dominate in, especially with the 200MP apochromatic telephoto lens. To summarize them, they are as follows:

  • High-speed sports: The Vivo X100 Ultra uses a “micro-gimbal anti-shake” telephoto lens in order to capture subjects moving very fast. Vivo cited that the phone was able to catch a BMW racing car in motion.
  • Extreme macro: The telephoto lens is expected to come with macro functionality and should be able to hit a 3.4:1 magnification, which they claim is the industry’s highest macro performance in a phone.
  • Low-light portraits: You’ll also be able to take even better telephoto portrait pictures in low light, with a reduction in shimmer, glare, and reflections.
  • Telephoto sunsets: Vivo has also made improvements to capturing the beauty of the sunset and the clouds.
  • Astrophotography: The telephoto camera should also make astrophotography and capturing the stars in the night sky a lot easier than before.
  • “Super Concert Artifact”: This is the final Infinity Stone, and it means that the telephoto lens in this camera should be able to catch images during live concerts sharply, even with low light, a rapidly changing scene, and high magnification.

Putting all of these on the table, it genuinely sounds like the telephoto lens in Vivo’s camera might be one of the absolute best in the game if all of the Chinese company’s haughty claims pan out to be true. Fortunately, we don’t need to wait too long to find out.

The Vivo X100s and Vivo X100s Pro Are Also Coming For The Ride

The Vivo X100 Ultra isn’t the only smartphone being birthed into the world on May 13th. Vivo is also bringing the Vivo X100s and Vivo X100s Pro to the world, and these devices are meant to be extremely similar to the previously released Vivo X100 and Vivo X100 Pro, though they are expected to come with the Dimensity 9300+ and that might genuinely be the only major upgrade.
