MediaTek’s Dimensity 8250 Is Aimed At Affordable Flagships

Fast clock speeds and HDR features are here to save your life

MediaTek’s upcoming Dimensity 8250 shares the same octa-core CPU configuration as its predecessor with subtle differences overall. Both processors use the Mali-G610 MC6 GPU and have one core based on the Cortex-A78 architecture. It runs at 3.1 GHz clock speed, with three others using the same architecture but running slower at 3.0GHz. The last four cores use the Arm Cortex-A55 architecture and run at 2.0GHz.

The 4nm process is the same, which is smaller than most chipsets and generally translates to better power efficiency and cooler operation. A major difference is the inclusion of support for displays with high refresh rates.

You can now choose between FHD+ screens at 180Hz or sharper QHD+ displays at 120Hz. MediaTek has also added a super-fast quad-channel LPDDR5. With this type of memory, you’ll experience fast data transfer speeds.

Remarkable camera support features

The Image Signal Processor on the Dimensity 8250 comes with support for High Dynamic Range (HDR) at 14 bits. The chip is able to assist its host phone’s camera with a wide range of colors and light details, resulting in more realistic and vibrant photos and videos.

It’ll also support cameras with sensors up to a whopping 320 megapixels. It’s unheard of for phone manufacturers to use such high resolutions, yet it’s still good to know that the chip can handle high-resolution photos with exceptional detail.

You can even record videos in stunning 4K resolution at 60 frames per second. There’s a built-in technology that stabilizes video recordings and reduces shakiness for smooth playback. The chipset employs AI in areas such as object recognition, scene optimization, and portrait mode improvements.

Beyond the camera, you’ll see it play out in voice assistant improvements and natural language processing, as well as optimizing resource allocation based on its understanding of user behavior.

Fast wireless networking & more

The Dimensity 8250 holds a strong 5G modem offering up to 4.7Gbps downlink speeds, allowing you to tap into the latest cellular data networks. It also features three-band Wi-Fi 6E for fast wireless networking and Bluetooth 5.3 with LE Audio for smooth audio connections.

The Oppo Reno 12 5G will be the first smartphone to launch the processor on May 23rd this year. The second Oppo Reno 12 Pro 5G phone in the series will use the more powerful Dimensity 9200+ Star Speed Edition chipset instead. The launch will first happen in China, with a global rollout expected later.
