The Galaxy Watch FE Has Images, Specs, And Price Leaked

The Samsung Galaxy Watch FE Name Has Been Confirmed Thanks To Bluetooth Certification

A week ago, it wasn’t sure whether it was going to be called the Samsung Galaxy Watch FE or the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 (2024). I personally felt the latter name wasn’t going to do the company any favors when trying to get the smartwatch off shelves, and it seems they agree with that sentiment. It’s going to be called the Samsung Galaxy Watch FE.

This is essentially confirmed thanks to the smartwatch appearing in the Bluetooth SIG database (spotted by MySmartPrice) with the four different model numbers (one of which is the SM-R861 model number that we saw a support page go live for). What we know from this page is that the device is going to come with Bluetooth 5.3 and will officially be known as the Galaxy Watch FE, so that’s something clarified.

We Also Know Exactly What The Device Is Going To Look Like Now

We’ve been talking about the smartwatch a lot but we’ve had no idea what it’s going to look like, apart from being able to speculate that it will likely look something like the Galaxy Watch 4 (spoiler: that’s right). Courtesy Sudhanshu1414 on X, we’ve got a look at multiple angles of the Samsung Galaxy Watch FE.

If you know what the Galaxy Watch 4 looks like, that’s precisely what this new watch is going to look like if the renders are accurate. There is literally nothing that differentiates it, besides potentially coming with different standard band colors. It’s got no rotating bezel, two side buttons, an aluminum frame, and thick bezels around the circular watch face.

It’s not the worst-looking smartwatch, but it is genuinely nothing special considering newer smartwatches are generally more attractive.

The Specs Align With The Galaxy Watch 4 Rumors, But It’s Somehow Worse

We heard all the rumors about this smartwatch being a relaunch of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, and again, that seems to have been based on a lot of facts. Again, thanks to Sudhanshu Ambhore on X, we have a look at pretty much the entire spec sheet for the 40mm variant of the device. It’s pretty much identical to the 40mm variant of the Watch 4.

You get a 1.2-inch 396 x 396 Super AMOLED circular display, 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, a dated Exynos W920 chip, a small 247 mAh battery, and One UI Watch 5.0. There are also IP68 and MIL-STD-810H certifications. Interestingly, Sudhanshu says that the watch will have Bluetooth 5.0, but the Bluetooth certification earlier mentioned updates it to 5.3, so not too sure what’s happening there.

Now, the final piece in the puzzle is that the Galaxy Watch FE is expected to cost €199 according to MysteryLupin on X. This is likely to translate to an equal $199 in the United States, but even at that, it’s hard to consider the Galaxy Watch FE as worth it. You get specs from 2021 with the only likely benefit being longer software support. You can get a brand-new Galaxy Watch 6 with much better specs for just $40 more, and if you know your way around eBay, you can get a new one for even less than the upcoming FE.

It begs the question: what’s the point? Might as well buy a Watch 4 for dirt cheap instead.
