The Humane AI Pin Charging Case Has An Issue With Its Battery Cells That Poses A Fire Safety Risk
If you’ve somehow not heard about it, the Humane AI Pin is a device that clips to your shirt and is intended to replace your phone by putting an AI assistant on your chest. I saw it coming from a mile away but the tech world didn’t exactly receive it well once it got into the hands of consumers. We’re not quite ready to let go of our smartphones, as you might have surmised.
Like our modern earbuds, the Humane AI Pin ships with a portable charging case that you can place the pin in to give it juice on the go. The company has advised that you “immediately stop using and charging your Charge Case accessory due to an issue with certain battery cells”. According to Humane, they realized their battery supplier wasn’t meeting the necessary quality standards and that some of those battery cells may pose a “fire safety risk”. In other words, your battery could potentially explode.
We saw the big mess that came about due to the battery situation for the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 before it was aggressively discontinued and recalled. This could potentially be very serious, but thankfully, this advisory is being issued before any incidents have occurred, which is very good.
The major problem is that at the moment, this advisory has only been sent to customers through email and it hasn’t been made public by the company via its website or social media accounts. Perhaps they’re trying to avoid too much bad press, but for the sake of what might be left of the brand, it’s important to make this risk known as widely as possible.
This Is More Bad News For A Product That Was Already Dealing With A Lot Of Bad News
On paper, the Humane AI Pin was a cool concept (and jumped on the new AI wave that everyone is trying to surf on), though I could personally tell that it wasn’t going to have the easiest time in the market, unless it worked flawlessly. That, it didn’t, so needless to say, the entire point of the device wasn’t grasped by consumers and its substandard user experience was bashed rather inhumanely.
The AI Pin is the first product from Humane and considering it isn’t doing great, that’s not the best news for the company. Considering there’s now a risk of charging cases spontaneously combusting, that makes things even worse for the company. They’re somehow worse off than Rabbit.
In fact, things were so bad after what the company must have expected to be a success that the company is already looking for a buyer, mere months after the product actually got to reviewers.
