Tech review: Miofive S1 Ultra is the flash dash cam that did way more than I expected it to

We live in a world sadly car accidents are on the increase and something that has become a part of society as we know it.

Insurance rates can be expensive if you are on the wrong end of a claim, and sometimes it’s a really good idea to have all the evidence you can.

That’s where devices like this come in very handy because they do all the hard work of investigations and witness reports for you.

I was unlucky enough to have an accident a few years back with a big lorry from a very well-known company, it was completely not my fault, but I ended up having to settle the claim 50/50 due to lack of evidence.

Having a dash cam takes away that uncertainty and while a few years back it would have been seen to be a bit flashy or over the top to have a recording device, it’s now a completely sensible step.

It’s also far more hi-tech, slick, and efficient than I ever could have envisaged it being. Just from a pure gadget perspective, this S1 Ultra dashcam has 4k high-definition front and rear recording cameras giving an ultra-high-definition result.

With built-in WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS, set-up is a breeze and the accompanying app is really easy to navigate and a good place to store your data and control your device.

Miofive S1 Ultra

This little device is packed full of so much tech I really wasn’t prepared for it, I was expecting a camera that records the road, and does little else. I was very wrong.

I didn’t for example expect night vision, and of course, it makes sense it would have that, but I really didn’t expect it. Nor was I expecting that crystal clear return on the picture and that’s down to a front camera with an F1.8 large aperture, and a 140°wide-angle lens, the back camera has F2.0 large and 112°wide-angle.

They are impressive specifications for a dash cam and they ensure this is a premium product rather than a budget offering, which of course could be all you are after.

I expect like me, this will exceed most people’s expectations and be way more than you expected, but it really does deliver everything you would want from a dashcam device, the most important thing being ease of set-up and

What customers have said

One user commented on Amazon: “The camera’s picture quality is amazing and as it records videos at 4K you can reduce it to 2K for your memory card to hold more data. It comes with a 64GB SD memory card and supports up to 512GB memory card. The back camera will require a bit more effort to be put on the rear shield due to its thick wire.”

Another made the point: “Quality wise the back camera seemed better than the front one when playing back videos, could be something to do with the file encoding as the video for the front camera was a bit jittery, and number plates are not as clear as in the video for the back one, will see if reducing the quality down from 4k will resolve this issues.”
