Looking for a way to watch the 2024 Paris Olympics this year? You’ve got lots of options for streaming and viewing the games when they kick off Friday, July 26th, and we’ll go over the options to help you make the best choice.
In the United States, NBC is handling the games, so you’ll see most of the coverage on your local NBC stations, Peacock, and other Comcast/Xfinity branded options.
Cable viewing
If you have traditional cable, you’ll have the easiest option of just tuning into your local NBC channel. You’ll get all the live coverage that NBC is offering across the games, and if your cable provider offers a DVR you can also set up a recording so you don’t have to deal with the odd time zone issues.
If you have Xfinity, however, you get a leg up on the rest of the cable providers. Your X1 platform gives you access to alerts and guides for all of the games, including sending mobile alerts directly to your phone when certain games start. You’ll also get a few extra videos about the games and athletes, an Odds Zone to show the gambling odds of certain games, and a Gold Zone show that works like the NFL’s Red Zone channel during football season, also hosted by Scott Hanson.
Comcast is also delivering all of this in 4k.
If you like the old-school delivery of television but don’t have cable, your TV antenna will also work so long as you have a local NBC station. Whether your antenna is connected directly to your TV or you’re running it through something like Plex, you may already have a free solution to watch the games without any extra work on your part. And hey, antennas are cheaper than ever these days; you can pick one up for $20 on Amazon to get prepared for next week.
No cable, no problem
Don’t have cable and don’t want to sign up for that kind of contract just for the Olympics? No problem there, as you have lots of streaming options, too.
Peacock is the easiest choice, especially considering it’s Comcast’s own platform. They’ll be streaming everything that the X1 platform does, including athlete profiles, the Gold Zone and Odds Zone shows, and allow multiviewing across multiple events. You can also set up alerts and a customizable experience to focus on the events that you care about. At just $6 per month, this is definitely going to be your cheapest option (assuming you don’t already have an antenna) although you will lose the cloud DVR feature if you don’t subscribe to Peacock’s higher tier $12 plan.
If you’re looking at other streaming options, you can opt for something like FuboTV or YouTube TV that offers live streaming with local channels. Anything with NBC will give you the flexibility to watch the games, and many of these live streaming services offer DVRs for recording shows in case the time zones don’t line up for you.
And if you don’t need to see every game all the time, you can use the NBCOlympics.com website for free, which will show some (but not all) coverage of the games without you having to spend any money.
Everywhere else
These options cover watching the Olympics in the United States, but if you’re trying to watch them somewhere else, the Olympics website does list your options for other countries around the world. Simply use this website and search for your country to see what your best TV providers are.
Alternatively, a good VPN can help you access the US options and take advantage of all of the enhancements that NBC is offering for the games.
