Donald Trump delivers remarks at Bitcoin conference in Tennessee

Former President Donald Trump is slated to deliver the keynote address at the world’s largest Bitcoin conference, seeking to position himself and running mate Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) as a pro-cryptocurrency ticket.

The event held in Nashville, Tennessee comes as cryptocurrency has emerged as a highly contentious issue this election cycle.

Notable tech executives have flocked to pledge their support and donations to Trump, including a $1 million bitcoin donation from both Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, the twins who co-founded the cryptocurrency exchange Gemini.

In June, former President Trump pushed for all remaining Bitcoin to be mined in the United States, signaling a shift in his stance towards the crypto industry.

Previously critical of cryptocurrency, Trump in 2019 said he was “not a fan of Bitcoin and other Cryptocurrencies, which are not money, and whose value is highly volatile and based on thin air. Unregulated Crypto Assets can facilitate unlawful behavior, including drug trade and other illegal activity.”

Earlier this year, Trump reiterated that position, saying he would not allow the creation of a central bank digital currency if elected, calling it a “dangerous threat to freedom.”

The event is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. EDT.
