OnePlus Open Apex Edition Is Unveiled In A New Crimson Color

The OnePlus Open was an absolutely fantastic first attempt at a foldable from OnePlus. Considering the company has always been capable of playing ball with the big boys, it shouldn’t have been much of a surprise how easily the company was able to hop into such a new market segment.

This year, we were expecting to see the OnePlus Open 2, but it seems that’s not going to happen by the look of things. Instead, it seems you’re going to have to make do with the launch of the OnePlus Open Apex Edition, which comes with the same hardware, but a striking new colorway and some software perks.

The OnePlus Open Apex Edition Is Surprise-Dropped And Certainly Looks Great If Nothing Else

OnePlus Open Apex Edition sounds badass, doesn’t it? It has nothing to do with the popular videogame Apex: Legends, in case you were thinking this might be a collaboration. Instead, it is just meant to indicate that this is somehow the topmost edition of the phone that you can get, and considering it is coming out close to a year after the original, that’s not surprising.

The major thing that differentiates this device from its predecessor (if you can call it that) is that gorgeous new colorway. The OnePlus Open Apex Edition comes in a very sexy Crimson Shadow that will certainly catch a lot of eyes at first glance. There’s just something about a red vegan leather finish that screams premium.

However, besides that, there really isn’t much to differentiate this device from the regular OnePlus Open that we all know and love. OnePlus says that it has “enhanced storage”, but considering the regular one has 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage, that either means it will come with 1TB or OnePlus will say it comes with some new storage optimization software.

It will also come with “AI image editing features”. Considering it came out before the whole AI craze went into full swing, this isn’t much of a surprise. Expect it to come with the same AI-powered editing features that all the other phones are doing, like an object eraser and generative fill when moving objects.

You’re Still Going To Need To Wait Until 2025 For A Completely New OnePlus Foldable Device

The OnePlus Open Apex Edition Will Be Launching On August 7th, so it is less than a week away from being unveiled in full. However, if you’re looking for an entirely new OnePlus foldable device that you can potentially purchase, by the looks of things, you’re not going to be getting it until 2025, despite the fact that the original OnePlus Open launched in October 2023.

I’m not quite sure why OnePlus is planning to delay the successor to what was a very impressive debut foldable, but I’m certain it must have its reasons. It seems the OnePlus Open Apex Edition is being released as a way to appease the masses.

Either way, I’ll need the OnePlus Open 2 to be an absolute home run if the company wants to be forgiven for its delay.
