MediaTek’s Dimensity 9300 chip was a surprise beast. I’ll admit that I never used to place their chips on par with those from Qualcomm (like most people), but last year really showed how much of a competitor the Taiwanese company is, especially with the Dimensity 9300+.
The Dimensity 9400 is next up on MediaTek’s calendar, and it looks set to be a fantastic SoC if it builds on what the 9300+ brought. We know that it is expected to launch in October, and it looks like the first phone toting it might come in November.
The MediaTek Dimensity 9400 is going to be the best chip that the company has released to date, and if things are similar to the 9300, it’s going to compete very seriously with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. In fact, we might see an unprecedented number of manufacturers switching over to a MediaTek chip for their flagships.
The new chip is expected to launch in October, according to Digital Chat Station, likely a few weeks ahead of the next Snapdragon release, so these SoCs will be going head-to-head from the very start.
This is the time of AI though, so you shouldn’t be surprised to hear that MediaTek’s upcoming flagship chip is expected to improve NPU power over the last generation by a whopping 40%. Hopefully, the actual CPU and GPU performance will also get a significant boost.
The Dimensity 9300 Earned MediaTek 1 Billion Dollars
The MediaTek Dimensity 9300 will soon be old news, but I’m sure anyone but MediaTek will be quick to discard it from their memories. The chip was a smash hit for the company in 2023, bringing $1b in revenue for the company. That chip alone was enough to push its revenue up by 70%. That makes it clear why the company is likely going to go all out with the 9400.
The Vivo X200 Series Will Launch With It First, Followed By The Oppo Find X8
With its launch expected in early October, any devices coming with the chip will be flagships releasing in the final quarter of the year. Fortunately, we don’t need to do any guesswork trying to figure out which phones are going to ship with the new SoC first.
Thanks to Digital Chat Station, once again, we know that the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 will be introduced to the world first in the Vivo X200 series. That’ll be our first chance to get a glimpse of the actual performance of these chips, and I’m sure you’re just as excited as I am to see those benchmarks. It’ll be positioned against the Xiaomi 15 series, which will be the first to launch with its competitor’s chip.
After the Vivo X200, the Oppo Find X8 series will be the next in line to launch with this brand-new processor. The Vivo X100 launched in late November, so hopefully, we’ll see its successor in the same window, while the Oppo Find X7 launched in January, so we might need to wait until 2025 for that one.
