When is Apple Vision Pro coming to the UK?
It’s available now. Apple Vision Pro was launched in the UK on 12 July 2024, several months after it was released in the US and over a year after it was first announced. It is an individual device that requires a custom fit per user. The main part of the Vision Pro remains the same per user, but there are various different-sized Light Seals and headbands to ensure no light gets through when wearing the headset.
The Light Seal snaps on magnetically and you can buy different Light Seals so different users in a household can use the Vision Pro, but it doesn’t support different user profiles on the interface so you would either need to use the Guest Mode, or sign out of an Apple ID and sign into another one to change user.
When buying the Vision Pro, you’ll need to get measured for your Light Seal and headband to ensure the Vision Pro is customised to you. You can either go into an Apple Store to get measured, or you can use an iPhone or iPad to do this at home. There are also ZEISS Optical Inserts available with Readers and Prescription options depending on your vision.
What is the difference between Google Glass and Apple Vision Pro?
Apple Vision Pro is a virtual reality headset, while Google Glass were smart glasses, similar to the Ray-Ban Meta Glasses and Spectacles by Snap. Smart glasses are designed to be worn out and about, serving up essential information as an overlay to what you see in real life, such as notifications and directions, whilst also offering the ability to take photos and videos.
Apple Vision Pro isn’t designed to be walked around in, though you can take photos and videos using the capture button at the top. Virtual reality headsets and devices like the Apple Vision Pro are intended to be used within a familiar and safe environment with fewer variables to cause injury when using the virtual environments, like your house, a plane or a train, as opposed to walking down the street where there could be multiple hazards.
Is Apple Vision Pro a smart glass?
No, Apple Vision Pro is more a virtual reality headset than smart glasses. It is significantly larger than smart glasses and it does a lot more in terms of capabilities, whilst offering more impressive (and different) technology. Smart glasses typically look like normal glasses (just a little chunkier) and they will allow for things like taking photos whilst walking down a street, rather than transporting you to a completely different and immersive environment.
Can you walk with Apple Vision Pro?
It is possible to walk with Apple Vision Pro as the video passthrough allows you to see the real world around you when you have turned the Digital Crown all the way down and therefore out of an immersive environment. It is not recommended to walk around with Vision Pro however, and in my experience, it wasn’t something I enjoyed doing even around the house. You get a much better experience when sitting down and using it.
How long is the battery life on the Apple Vision Pro?
The Apple Vision Pro has a 2 hour battery life for typical use, or a 2.5 hour battery life when watching a video or film. The battery pack, which is an aluminium pack around the same size as an iPhone 15 Pro Max (but a little thicker), has to be permanently attached to the Vision Pro headset. It is charged via USB-C and you will get a notification on the Vision Pro interface when the battery is at 20 per cent and then again at 10 per cent. You can charge the battery pack whilst still using the Vision Pro however, you just need to be aware of the extra cable.
