Nest Smart Learning Thermostat review, Sonos app issues, & Wi-Fi issues

HomeKit Insider Podcast

On this episode of the HomeKit Insider Podcast, we review the brand-new Nest Learning Thermostat fourth-generation as well as answer a few listener questions.

This week in the news the Sonos CEO said while they were hopeful they could re-release their old app, too many changes have already been implemented. It would ultimately create more problems than it would solve.

It’s the latest chapter in their ongoing saga where the primary Sonos app has struggled. It’s been plagued with problems and Sonos has been slowly addressing them all.

We also had a listener question this week from Michael. He wanted to know if there was anything he could do about devices struggling to communicate between the 2.4 and 5GHz networks.

We go into a few troubleshooting options to try out. This is a fairly common smart home issue as most smart devices only support the 2.4GHz band.

The bulk of the episode is devoted to the new Nest Learning Thermostat Gen 4. We start by going through the problematic insulation process.

After the install, we talk about the design, functionality, and how we can add it to the Home app via Matter.
