If you’re still cruising on a legacy Verizon unlimited plan, your Autopay discount is shrinking by half from $10 to $5. The company emailed subscribers of the ensuing change Wednesday, which has since been met with outrage from users on Reddit.
This increase follows a similar price rise for grandfathered plans back in January. In short, in order to bring its customers its “best network and services,” it needs to “adjust” the Auto Pay discount. The changes take place starting October 10, 2024, and impact the Play/Do/Get More plans, 5G Start, Go/Beyond/Above Unlimited, 55+ Unlimited, and “New Verizon Plan Unlimited” subscriptions. You can avoid the $5 reduction, however, by updating your subscription to the company’s newer myPlan scheme, which offers “exclusive savings on subscriptions for entertainment, shopping and more.”
The full letter, per Droid Life, reads:
We are committed to bringing you our best network and services. Our focus on ongoing innovation enables us to give our customers the best. To ensure we deliver premium experiences and offers, sometimes we need to make adjustments. We want to let you know about an upcoming change to your Auto Pay discount.
Here’s what to expect:
While we continue to offer Auto Pay benefits, your $10/line discount will be reduced to $5/mo. and your bill will increase starting on or after 10.10.2024. However, your current plan price and benefits will remain unchanged. You also have the option of moving to myPlan, where you’ll receive an Auto Pay discount of $10/mo for every line you switch.

You’ll still get our award-winning 5G network, but now you can choose your Unlimited plan and customize it with a variety of perks—exclusive savings on subscriptions for entertainment, shopping and more. Subscribers on Reddit, unsurprisingly, were not happy with the announcement. “It’s more like: ‘We are committed to forcing you to a plan that isn’t best for you. If you fail to comply, we will continue to chip away at benefits and increase the rate until you do’,” user domdiggitydog wrote. Other users called on subscribers to file FCC complaints in response.
“I saw that email and was immediately annoyed,” user Ashfab1 added. “Seems like every few months they’re strong-arming us into paying more for some pretend benefit.”
