Flexispot E7 Plus Standing Desk review: specs, cost, price

Over the past few years, innovations in standing desks and the day-to-day practice of bringing standing desks into workspaces (both at home and in the office) have become the norm.

Whether it be for posture, comfort, or health reasons, standing desks appear to here to stay. As someone who spends a considerable amount of time at my desk usually over a 27″ Xencelabs drawing tablet with less-than-ideal posture, the idea of moving to a standing desk piqued my curiosity.

Among the manufacturers on the market providing options for standing desks to fit every need, Flexispot stands out as a brand working to create sturdy, functional, and more affordable offerings in a competitive market.

The E7 Plus arrives in three separate boxes: The desktop and two individual boxes for the leg components, instructions, and electronics.

I know that only a few of us would appreciate this, but the packing and shipping of these boxes are next-level. I have never seen anything so padded and secure that it carries the size and weight of a standing desk. It’s unreal.

After unboxing, I was pleased to find printed instructions with the desk among the components. Many companies are moving toward QR codes with online-only manuals or assembly videos on their sites or YouTube.

Maybe I am old school, but I like having the paper instructions that I will almost always misplace, cuss, and locate after 10 minutes of searching. I respect the old ways.

The first thing you need to know about the E7 Plus is this: it is heavy. Very heavy.

This is a natural side effect with standing desks, as the motors and the nature of the materials mean everything needs to be a little beefier. However, this can make assembling and moving the desk around more challenging.

I live alone, and while the instructions are clear and concise, this is still a two-person task. But, I had to make it work. Moving the heavier components for assembly was a bit precarious.

Thankfully, the assembly process was a breeze, and the customer was only asked to provide a Phillips head screwdriver or electric drill with a Phillips head bit. Flexispot provides all the necessary tools, screws, and — brace yourself — cable clips for cable management.

I recommend using an electric drill, as working the mounting screws that attached the frame to the bamboo desktop took a bit of muscle, even with the electric drill. Doing this by hand would be an arduous task. Save yourself the pain.

Regarding the build quality, nothing about the E7 Plus feels cheap or flimsy. The brackets, legs, desktop, and reinforcement bars all feel strong and durable. This desk feels like it will handle long-term daily use with no issues at all.

The E7 Plus supports up to 540 lbs. and ranges in height from 26″ to 51″ to cover a wide range of heights and needs.

Honestly, I could not work out what anyone would put on a standing desk to need 540 lbs. of support. But there must be a need in the market, and I like the added safety.

I take comfort in knowing that if I ever need to perform an act as a stage magician, the E7 Plus will help me with my levitation trick.

Flexispot offers various customization options, including desktop materials, colors, curved and non-curved desktops, accessories, and sizes. On the Flexispot site, I saw options for solid wood, chipboard, bamboo, and dark bamboo, with add-ons like wireless chargers built into the desktop, desktop drawers, keyboard trays, and lockable desk drawers.

Each of these add-ons is priced individually, allowing customers to build the E7 Plus that is best for them, but I will admit that I do miss the inclusion of drawers on the E7 Plus. Drawers are not standard for this model and must be purchased and added to the desk separately.

The modular nature of the desk and the accessories is nice, but the final price tag could jump exponentially based on the final build.

I opted for the 55″ x 28″ bamboo desktop to match my office furniture, which looks wonderful. The legs and frame are black, and the bamboo top is clean and sturdy.

I also like that the control panel is small, and with the included brackets for cable management, everything about the E7 Plus is clean.

After setting up the E7 Plus for work, I snapped a pic and placed my two biggest pieces of equipment on the desk.

Yes, this is purely to display the size and real-world scale of equipment on the E7 Plus in its cleanest state. I eventually moved everything over to the desk, including a hub, an external hard drive, and a monitor swing arm mount.

While the desk handles everything wonderfully, I have not performed the sacred act of cable management. There is no way I am showing you that shame.

What I found in the first few days of work on the E7 Plus is that I had to get used to standing while I worked. Standing desks are new to me, but the solution I found is syncing up standing and sitting with my Apple Watch alerts.

Time to stand? You got it. I just hit the button to move the desk to my saved preset on the controls, and I am good to go.

The controls are just simple and easy. I used the up and down controls to fine-tune my perfect sitting height making it perfect for my back as an illustrator, and I attached it to preset one.

Next, I found my best standing height for my six-foot frame and saved it as preset number two. The entire process took minutes and now it is as easy as pressing a button.

The control pad also offers child locks and an additional USB port for charging devices. These are small things, but I appreciate them.

When you raise and lower the desk, there is a very faint motorized sound during the movement, but it is low and the speed of the height adjustment is outstanding. It is quick and mostly quiet.

As of this writing, the 55″ x 28″ bamboo desktop E7 Plus I have is priced at $969.00 US via Flexispot’s site. Over the course of writing this review, I have seen flash sales on the site bring the price down to $659.00 US for a limited time.

By all standards, this is not an inexpensive entry point to move into using a standing desk. It is going to be an investment with the E7 Plus.

If you are brand new to standing desks, there is a chance you might not like the experience at all. That is a real concern worth weighing out before making this investment.

Again, I will say that the E7 Plus is a very strong desk, and if you do not use the standing feature every day, the desk will likely last many, many years.

Ultimately, it comes down to whether the E7 Plus is worth the investment. For me, the answer is yes.

It is an amazing offering and would be a welcome addition to any home or office.

There is a significant upfront investment, especially if you’re accustomed to Ikea desk prices. But, if you have the finances to make the purchase, the E7 Plus will not disappoint.

The only flaw it has for me is the additional weight and logistics needed to assemble and move it safely. But beyond that, I cannot find fault anywhere else.
