Apple is busy announcing all sorts of exciting new products today, like the powerful new iPhone 16 Pro. However, the company took a minute to update the AirPods Max, kind of. After four years without much of an update, the AirPods Max now comes with USB-C.
Apple has ditched its old and outdated proprietary Lightning connector for USB-C on its most expensive headphones. If you are looking for other exciting upgrades or changes after a four-year wait, you’ll have to keep on waiting for future upgrades.

The new USB-C AirPods Max can be preordered today in black, blue, purple, and orange for the usual $549 asking price. Like everything else being unveiled today, the new Max headphones will be available on Apple’s website starting September 20th.
Apple only spent about a minute talking about its Max headphones, which was quite surprising. The new AirPods 4, AirPods Pro, Watch Series 10, and new iPhones were the stars of the event, and the AirPods Max was one of the least notable announcements.
As we explained in our review several years ago, the AirPods Max remains Apple’s premium headphone offering at a premium price. Considering the AirPods and AirPods Pro are continuously getting notable new features, refined designs, wireless charging cases, and more, we were hopeful for a little more than what Apple delivered today. Oh well, there’s always next year, right?
