Many Android keyboard apps can learn the words you type on your phone. Eventually, if you find that your keyboard app has learned misspelled words or words you didn’t want it to learn, you can remove those learned words from your keyboard app.
Removed Learned Words From Gboard
If you use Google’s Gboard app on your Android phone, you can easily remove select or find and remove all learned words.
To remove a select word, tap a text field on your phone so that Gboard appears. Start typing the word you want to remove. When Gboard displays that word as a suggestion, tap and hold on to the word. Then, drag the word and drop it onto the trash can icon displayed on the screen.
If you’d like to find all the words that Gboard has learned, access a text field so the keyboard appears. In the keyboard’s top-left corner, tap the four-square icon and select the gear icon.
You’ll land on Gboard’s settings page. Here, tap “Dictionary” and then choose “Personal Dictionary.”
Choose the language from which you want to remove learned words. To delete learned words from all languages, select “All Languages.” On the following screen, find and tap the word to remove.
You can’t delete all learned words at once. You can see the list of all the learned words and choose the ones to remove, one at a time.
On the word screen, in the top-right corner, tap the trash can icon. Gboard will remove the selected learned word.
Removed Learned Words From Samsung Keyboard
Samsung Keyboard works pretty much like Gboard, allowing you to remove select or all learned words with ease.
To delete a single word, open a text field so Samsung Keyboard appears. Start typing the word to remove. When the word appears in the suggestion bar, tap and hold on it. From the open menu, choose “Remove” to delete the word.
Unlike Gboard, Samsung Keyboard has the option to remove all the learned words at once. This way, you don’t have to go into each word and delete it manually. To do that, launch Settings on your phone and select General Management > Samsung Keyboard Settings.
Choose “Reset to Default Settings” and select “Erase Personalized Predictions.” In the open prompt, select “Erase” to delete all the learned words from the Samsung Keyboard.
Removed Learned Words From SwiftKey
If you use SwiftKey, you can remove individual learned words as well as all the learned words from your keyboard.
To delete a specific word, access a text field to trigger the keyboard to open. Start typing the word to remove. Tap and hold on to the word in the suggestion bar and choose “OK” in the prompt.
To remove all learned words, tap a text field to make SwiftKey appear. In the keyboard’s top-right corner, tap the three dots and select “Settings.”
On the SwiftKey Settings page, select “Typing.” Scroll down the open screen to the bottom and choose “Clear Typing Data.”
In the open prompt, select “Continue.”
SwiftKey has deleted all the learned words.
Removed Learned Words Fleksy
Fleksy doesn’t allow you to remove learned words individually. Your only option is to remove all the learned words at once, which is done by clearing the keyboard’s saved data.
To do that, head into Settings > Apps > Fleksy > Storage Usage on your phone and tap “Clear Data.” In the open prompt, select “OK.”
Turn Off Autocorrect on Your Phone
If you don’t wish your keyboard’s auto-correct feature to automatically correct your words using learned words, turn off the feature in your keyboard app. Here’s how.
Gboard
Access a text field so Gboard appears. Tap the four-square icon in the top-left corner and choose the gear icon. Select “Text Correction” on the following page and turn off “Auto-Correction.”
Samsung Keyboard
Open a text field, so Samsung Keyboard appears. Tap the gear icon to access the settings page. On the following screen, turn off the “Predictive Text” toggle.
SwiftKey
Tap a text field so SwiftKey opens. Tap the three dots in the top-right corner and choose “Settings.” Select “Typing” on the following page and turn off “Autocorrect.”
Fleksy
Fleksy allows you to turn off auto-correct as well as stop the keyboard from learning new words. To access those options, open Fleksy by tapping a text field. In the keyboard’s top-left corner, choose the three dots and select the gear icon.
Choose “Dictionary” and turn off “Auto-Correction,” “Auto-Correction After Punctuation,” and “Auto-Learn Words.”
If your keyboard app isn’t listed above, but you’d like to remove select or all learned words from it, try tapping and holding on a suggested word and then selecting the trash can icon. Similarly, you should be able to delete all learned words by accessing your keyboard’s settings page, choosing the “Dictionary” or similar option, and removing all the listed words.
Most Android keyboard apps learn the words as you type, making typing easier on your phone. However, if your keyboard has learned many words that you don’t really wish to use or the keyboard automatically suggests those words, there are easy ways to get rid of those words from your keyboard app. Happy typing on your Android device!
