Apple promotes many apps through the App Store, which has its own editorial board to choose the best apps and highlight them for users. However, there wasn’t much transparency about how Apple chooses these apps, but that’s changing now as developers finally can apply to be featured on the App Store.
This will be possible thanks to the new “Featuring Nominations” feature introduced to App Store Connect, the platform used to manage apps available on Apple platforms. As detailed by the company (via TechCrunch), developers can submit a nomination to tell the App Store team about a new app release or update.
The company will take all requests into consideration. If a specific request is granted, Apple will notify the developer and the app will be promoted in the Today tab of the App Store. In addition, Apple says that developers can also ask the company to promote special events in their games.
“Share your app or game’s upcoming content and enhancements for App Store featuring consideration with new Featuring Nominations in App Store Connect. Submit a nomination to tell our team about a new launch, in-app content, or added functionality,” says the company.
Earlier this week, Apple also updated App Store Connect for iOS with a new interface and new features, including an option that generates assets to promote apps on social networks such as Instagram. This update to App Store Connect follows a major update to TestFlight released last month that also introduced a new design to the app.
App Store Connect for iOS is available for free on the App Store and requires an iPhone or iPad running iOS 17 or later.
