Samsung is the biggest Android smartphone manufacturer on the planet and for very good reason. They make devices that span across every single price tier, allowing them to get the largest hold on the market. However, despite being such a major player, Samsung is incredibly stubborn in many ways.
Despite a lot of major Android manufacturers pushing the envelope on what is classified as “fast charging”, most of Samsung’s portfolio, including devices that cost close to $2,000, settle with 25W charging. It’s mostly the Plus and Ultra models in its S series that get that perk, but thankfully, that finally seems set to change.
The Samsung Galaxy A56 Will Be The First A Series Smartphone With 45W Charging
If you look at Samsung’s selection of smartphones with 45W charging, you’re going to find an incredibly short list. It makes me shake my head every time I realize that the leading manufacturer of Android smartphones maxes out at 45W, and even at that, only a handful of its devices can boast of that—majorly Plus and Ultra S series smartphones. Even Samsung’s most expensive foldables come with 25W charging.
The S series might get most of the spotlight for the South Korean OEM, but it is hardly its best-selling smartphone lineup. That privilege is assigned to the A series, which ranges from budget smartphones to higher-end mid-rangers. However, since 2019 when the Galaxy Note 10+ introduced 45W charging into Samsung’s arsenal, no A series device has ever come within reach of Samsung’s premium charging speed.
Thankfully, it seems that 2025 is the year that is going to change. The first Samsung A series device has just been spotted, certified with 45W charging, and that’s massive news for A series lovers. The device in question is the Galaxy A56, which will be the top smartphone in the upcoming generation, which explains why it’s the one to get that privilege.
This Doesn’t Mean The Rest Of The A Series Will Follow Anytime Soon
My first instinct was to say that this is a good omen for the rest of the A series potentially getting faster charging, but I doubt that will happen. At the moment, in Samsung’s S series, the vanilla S24 makes do with 25W charging, and if even that phone hasn’t moved on to 45W charging, I highly doubt that Samsung will afford that luxury to much cheaper smartphones.
We know that the regular S25 is still going to have 25W charging, so for as long as that doesn’t change, I won’t expect Samsung to go any further than the top model in the A lineup.
Early Rumors Suggest That The Galaxy A56 Will Have A Few Solid Upgrades
Although the Galaxy A56 isn’t expected to come around this year, we already have a few whispers of what we can expect from the device’s hardware.
Most notably, it’ll be coming with the recently launched Exynos 1580 SoC. That means an octa-core processor that has a 2.91GHz clock speed and a new GPU. While it keeps the 50MP + 12MP ultrawide + 5MP macro camera combo, the selfie camera will be improved. And of course, Android 15 will be coming out of the box, so you’ll definitely need to wait for the Galaxy S25 launch before this comes.
