Simply Piano now lets you learn to play through Apple Vision Pro — no keyboard required

Simply Piano has long been a hit app in my household. My daughter never really showed interest in learning to play our keyboard until she came across Simply Piano on her iPad. I think it’s the first annual subscription I ever bought for her based on how much she was getting from it.

Now Simply Piano has brought the experience from the iPhone and iPad to augmented reality on Apple Vision Pro. The best part? You can play using Simply Piano with a virtual piano in your real environment without a physical keyboard for the first time.

Here’s a description of the app’s capabilities from Simply:

By leveraging Apple Vision Pro’s cutting-edge capabilities, Simply Piano introduces groundbreaking features in piano learning, such as piano keys that light up to guide users, finger-tracking technology, real-time feedback powered by AI, and a virtual keyboard—making it possible to learn piano without a physical instrument for the first time. The app also enables learners to master sheet music in a fully immersive environment.

The team behind Simply Piano specifically highlights how Apple Vision pro makes the app experience unique:

Apple Vision Pro offers unique features such as gesture control, precise spatial tracking, and seamless interaction between real and virtual elements. Simply Piano leverages these innovations, along with advanced AI, to provide a learning experience that feels intuitive and natural. Learners can see virtual keys light up to guide their practice, use hand-tracking technology to ensure proper technique, and receive immediate feedback on their progress—all in an immersive, distraction-free environment.

Of course, the Simply Piano experience on Apple Vision Pro is better seen than described:

After testing it on Apple Vision Pro, the pitch for the virtual piano is appropriately described in the app as experimental. For the best playing experience, you can’t beat a physical keyboard or piano. Still, the app makes great use of the Apple Vision Pro capabilities to create an expansive virtual keyboard across a flat surface in your own environment.

Simply Piano is available on the App Store for iPhone, iPad, and now Apple Vision Pro. Learn more about Simply’s suite of music learning apps here.
