Virginia Tech-UVa Review: Complete Game By The Hokies

The regular season is over, capped by a nice win over the foppish horsemen of Route 29. This year, good defense and a mature performance by greenwood quarterback Pop Watson elevated the Hokies over the Cavs, and will be sending VT on to a bowl game.

Offense

It’s likely a good game from Watson would feature his feet; folks following him as a recruit knew his wheels could spin, and he showed that off against UVA:

This is a play-action call, so even with the DE screaming in at Watson, there’s no option for the quarterback to hand the ball off. And with a full-slide called in protection, there’s no one to account for the DE except for Watson. He could’ve thrown to Gosnell in the flat, but that would’ve been a hard throw at his height, so I like the shake-n-bake against a second-string DE for the first down….
