OnePlus announced the OnePlus 13, its intended flagship for most of 2025, back in October. Even though it is currently only available in China, it gave the rest of the world insight into what to expect when the device goes global, as it is certain to, on January 7th, 2025.
Today, the company just announced the OnePlus 13R, the slightly-trimmed version of its flagship. The company has dropped a lot of details regarding the phone, but you won’t be able to buy it until next year when it has its actual launch event.
OnePlus Has Just Announced Its Upcoming 13R Model
There’s no such thing as the OnePlus 13R in China, as the company opts to put those models under the OnePlus Ace series in its home country. We knew it’d be coming though, and now, we know for sure, as OnePlus has just unveiled its more affordable flagship option for 2025. The device will be launched next year, but before then, let’s talk about what OnePlus wasn’t shy about sharing.
A Lot Of Design Elements Have Been Elucidated
The OnePlus 13 cleaned up its design, and expectedly, the same treatment is coming to the OnePlus 13R. As modern expectations go, the OnePlus 13R gets a flat back panel, a flat aluminum frame, and a (mostly) flat screen—the glass over the bezels is rounded a little. The new Gorilla Glass 7i will be the protection on both the front and the back of the phone, bringing improved scratch protection.
The device will prioritize thinness, as it cuts down significantly on its predecessor’s 8.8mm thickness to get to 8mm. We can also see that the back panel is simple, with the circular camera module, the OnePlus logo, and nothing else. It loses the little reflective stripe that the OnePlus 13 has. It will be available in Nebula Noir and Astral Trail colors, with a finish resembling concentric circles—OnePlus was inspired by star trails, they say.
OnePlus Was Sparse With Hardware Details
The Chinese OEM didn’t seem excited to share too much about the internal hardware of the OnePlus 13R, so we’ll talk about the little that it did. It was very quick to tell us that the phone will have a 6,000mAh battery, which is a notable improvement over 5,500mAh in the previous model.
The triple camera setup will return, as expected, and OnePlus teases a Clear Burst mode for blur-free continuous shots and Action Mode for action photography. That’s pretty much all it has mentioned as regards hardware (though some things have leaked).
The OnePlus 13 Series Will Be Revealed At The OnePlus Winter Launch Event On January 7th, 2025
The OnePlus 13 series is very likely to be the first flagship duo of 2025, launching at the OnePlus Winter Launch Event on January 7th next year. The event will begin at 10:30 AM EST, and will not only bring the OnePlus 13 and 13R but a new colorway for the OnePlus Buds Pro 3 as well.
If you’re looking for any word on pricing, so am I, but we’re going to have to wait until then to hear everything. However, OnePlus is likely to have some sweet deals available, as we already know that intending OnePlus 13 customers in the US will have the chance to pre-pay $50 to save an extra $50 and get a free gift as high-value as the OnePlus Watch 2 (worth $299). A similar deal will open for the OnePlus 13R on December 23rd.
