How to Report Accounts on Instagram, Facebook, and More

Social media platforms allow you to connect with people worldwide. However, the downside is that you may encounter profiles posting inappropriate content. In such cases, you can report those accounts to stop seeing content from them, and the platform can take appropriate action against them.

1 Report an Account on Instagram

If you come across a profile posting inappropriate content that you believe doesn’t belong on Instagram, you can report it by visiting the profile, tapping the three dots in the top-right corner, and selecting the “Report” option.

Choose “A Specific Post” if you want to report a particular post from the account, or select “Something About This Account” if you believe the profile is consistently posting inappropriate content and shouldn’t be on Instagram. Next, specify the reason for your report. Select “They Are Pretending to Be Someone Else” if the account appears to be a fake impersonation. Choose “They May Be Under the Age of 13” if you suspect the account is operated by a minor. If the account is posting nudity, scams, or other inappropriate content, select “Something Else.”

After choosing the appropriate option, follow the on-screen instructions to complete the reporting process.

2 Report an Account on Facebook

Reporting an account on Facebook is similar to reporting on Instagram. To begin with, go to the profile you want to report. Tap the three dots, then select “Report Profile” from the menu. Choose whether you want to report a specific post made by the account or the account as a whole. Once you’ve made your selection, follow the on-screen instructions to finish the reporting process.

3 Report an Accounts on X (Twitter)

X offers a free speech platform where anyone can share their views on any topic. However, you might not always like the tweets another user is posting. In such cases, the first step is to either mute the account or block it.

However, if you believe an X account is consistently posting inappropriate content that shouldn’t remain on the platform, you can report it. To do so, go to the profile page of that account, tap the three dots in the top-right corner, and select the “Report” option from the menu. Then, choose the reason for reporting the account and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

4 Report an Account on Snapchat

Snapchat lets you send snaps to keep your friends updated about what you’re up to. However, if you’ve accidentally accepted a friend request from an account that’s sending you inappropriate snaps, you should report it immediately and remove it from your friend list.

To report an account on Snapchat, navigate to the profile of the account in question, tap the three dots in the top-right corner, select “Manage Friendship,” and then choose “Report.” Afterward, select the reason for reporting the account and follow the prompts Snapchat provides to complete the reporting process.

5 Report an Account on Bluesky

Bluesky is one of the newest social media apps gaining a lot of attention these days. As of this writing, the platform has around 25 million users and is being considered the best alternative to X.

However, like any other social media platform, Bluesky has its share of bad actor accounts that post content that shouldn’t be on the platform. If you come across such an account, you can report it by going to the account’s profile, tapping the three dots, and selecting the “Report Account” option. After that, you’ll need to choose the reason for reporting the account and follow the prompts to complete the process.

6 Report an Account on LinkedIn

I often receive numerous messages on LinkedIn about guest posting on How-To Geek. However, most of these messages come from scammers. The first thing I do in such cases is report their account.

If you face a similar situation and want to report a LinkedIn account that is posting inappropriate content or sending you unsolicited messages, then go to the person’s profile, tap the three dots, and select “Report or Block.” Choose “Report Profile Element.”

Under the Select our policy that applies section, choose the reason you want to report the account and tap “Next.” Then, select “Submit Report” to complete the process.

7 Report an Account on Reddit

Like any other social media platform, reporting accounts on Reddit is straightforward. However, unlike other platforms, you can only report certain aspects of a Reddit account, such as the username, display name, profile image, or bio.

That said, to report a Reddit account, go to that account’s profile, tap the three dots in the top-right corner and select “Report Profile.” Choose the issue you want to report about the account, tap “Next,” and then select the appropriate options to complete the reporting process.

8 Report an Account on Twitch

Twitch is one of the best platforms for streaming video games and other content online. However, some streamers occasionally broadcast inappropriate content through their accounts. While Twitch regularly monitors and automatically blocks such accounts, you can also manually report them to make it easier for the platform to identify violations.

To report an account streaming inappropriate content on Twitch, go to the user’s profile, tap the three dots, and select “Report” from the menu. Choose the reason for reporting the account, then provide additional details explaining why you’re reporting it. Finally, tap “Submit Report.”

9 Report a YouTube Account

If you come across a YouTube channel that is consistently posting content that violates platform guidelines, you can report it so the appropriate actions can be taken against the account.

To report a YouTube account, visit the user’s profile, tap the three dots in the top-right corner, and select “Report User.” In the About section, choose “Report User” again. Select the reason for reporting, pick the videos that support your report, and provide additional notes if necessary. Then, tap the “Submit” button.

This was all about how you can report accounts on various social media platforms. One important thing to keep in mind is that the platform may sometimes take days to take appropriate action against the reported account. In the meantime, to ensure you don’t see any content from those accounts, it’s a good idea to block them as well.
