TiVo OS is set to launch in the United States thanks to a partnership with Sharp Home Electronics Company of America. This is an important step for the TiVo smart TV platform, which is already used by eight partners and over 33 European brands.
The jump to the United States from TiVo OS has been a long time coming. The Sharp Smart TV that runs on TiVo will be the first TV in the US to have this operating system and is expected to be released in February 2025. It will have a 55-inch QLED screen with Ultra High Definition and High Dynamic Range, Dolby Atmos audio, and three HDMI ports.
Xperi, the company that owns TiVo, believes its platform will make watching TV easier and more intuitive for users. Sharp sees working with TiVo as key to boosting its presence in the US TV market. The TiVo OS is designed as an alternative to other smart TV systems. The platform uses smart search and recommendation tools that adapt to how users watch content, helping them find personalized suggestions for what to watch.
From what we can gather from the European stores, it seems like TiVo televisions are great to use. The average score for one model is almost 4.7 in one online store, and many reviews state that it’s a great television to have. The price in that store for a 50″ TiVo is $425.27 (340 pounds), so it’s at the cost of a Samsung or Sony television. Keep in mind that the price is likely going to be different when the Sharp TiVO television hits the US.
TiVo nor Sharp has given an official release date, but when it does come, it will be sold on the Sharp website. The price will dictate whether TiVo will be a competitor to a bigger brand like Sony or Samsung or a budget brand like Roku.
