Verizon Is Waiving Fees in Southern California, Amid Wildfires

California is no stranger to wildfires. However, many times, they are particularly devastating, and unfortunately, the start of 2025 brings wildfires of that sort. Several neighborhoods throughout Southern California have seen widespread destruction and mass evacuation in order to escape the danger of those out-of-control fires.

The most dedicated response from emergency crews is playing a role in extinguishing these fires, though when wildfires reach the scale they’re at now, things get harder. Verizon is doing what it can to provide relief to those affected, by waiving the fees that they’d normally need to worry about.

The current California wildfires started on January 7th, which was merely two days ago, but despite that, the extent of the damage that they’ve caused is extremely significant. These wildfires have led to a significant impact on the Pacific Palisades neighborhood, destroying more than 1,000 structures in that area. As a result, it has been deemed the most destructive wildfire to ever hit Los Angeles.

Unfortunately, that’s the destruction being seen in merely one region of Los Angeles. With things being this severe, it is incredibly important that people are able to reach out to their loved ones who live in the area. At the same time, those who live in the area need to be able to access important information, reach out to emergency services, and stay connected to others. That’s where Verizon has chosen to step in.

The mobile carrier is going to be offering unlimited calling, texting, and data to residents in the affected areas in Southern California and will waive all associated fees up until January 18th. The last thing that people who have lost their homes or are at risk of losing them need to worry about is a cell phone bill.

Verizon Isn’t the Only Carrier Providing Relief for the People of California

As much as we can appreciate Verizon for this move, the fortunate thing is that the carrier is hardly isolated in its efforts to provide relief. The other major carriers in the US—AT&T and T-Mobile—have also committed to waiving charges for the unlimited talk, text, and data services it is providing in the most devastated areas. In T-Mobile’s case, it has made a commitment to keep this ongoing until January 15th.

For Verizon, its relief doesn’t stop with the free calling, texting, and data services that it is providing at this time. It goes beyond that, and it explains why the carrier is providing free Wi-Fi and charging stations in multiple areas in Southern California. In a time like this, something as little as a place to charge your phone is certainly deeply important.

If you happen to live in the affected areas or know someone who does, the following addresses are where Verizon’s free charging and Wi-Fi stations can be found:

  • El Camino Real Charter High School at 5440 Valley Circle Boulevard, Woodland Hills, 91367
  • Oxnard College at 4000 S Rose Avenue, Oxnard, 93033
  • Westwood Recreation Center at 1350 S. Sepulveda, Los Angeles, 90025
