Apple seeds third developer beta of tvOS 18.3

Apple has moved on to its third round of developer betas, but it has started quietly with a trial of tvOS 18.3’s third beta, along with HomePod OS 18.3.

The third beta for tvOS 18.3 follows after the second, which surfaced on January 7. The first round was issued on December 16.

It’s also accompanied by the third developer beta of HomePod OS 18.3, which is used by the HomePod and HomePod mini.

The third tvOS 18.3 build is 22K5553a, replacing the second, 22K5540e. It can be manually installed onto the Apple TV via the settings app.

Unlike other beta releases, tvOS doesn’t tend to get many feature updates, with them being more a rarity in a build that’s typically about bug fixes and performance improvements.

AppleInsider and Apple strongly advise that users do not install test operating systems or other beta or RC software onto “mission-critical” or primary hardware, due to the small chance of issues that could result in the loss of data. Testers should therefore use secondary or non-essential devices and make sure they have sufficient backups of any critical data.
