Tim Cook invites you to donate to the Red Cross to assist LA wildfire recovery

Apple recently made a donation to assist with LA wildfire recovery efforts, and is now inviting customers to do the same.

Those based in the US can make a donation to the American Red Cross’s Southern California Wildfires Relief fund though the App Store or Apple Music apps …

CEO Tim Cook today tweeted the invitation.

Our hearts go out to all impacted by the ongoing devastation in LA. In addition to Apple’s donation, we’re making it easy to support recovery efforts. If you’re in the US, just open the App Store or Apple Music & click to donate to help make a difference.

The donation link only appears to work if your Apple ID is a US one.

Cook last week described the fires as “heartbreaking” as he announced Apple’s donation.

The devastation caused by the fires in Los Angeles is heartbreaking. Thank you to the incredible firefighters, first responders, and all those assisting for your heroic efforts. Apple will be donating to support the victims and recovery efforts on the ground.

BBC News reports that 25 people have been killed by the extended wildfires, with fears that strong winds are again about to make things worse.

Winds that have fanned wildfires in the US city of Los Angeles are again expected to kick up on Wednesday – after a 25th death from the huge, week-long outbreak was confirmed.

Forecasters have again identified an area of “extreme fire danger”, emphasising the risk level in a region to the north-west of the city centre.

In some mountainous areas, it is possible for winds to reach speeds of 70mph (113km/h), which would be nearly hurricane-force if they are sustained.

The anticipated increase in speeds threatens to spread the remaining four blazes, which firefighters have made further progress in tackling during a few days of calmer conditions.

Apple’s apps invite you to donate your choice of sum between $5 and $200, with the full amount being passed to the Red Cross.
