OnePlus released one foldable, which was a pretty great attempt considering that it was the company’s first. However, since then, we’ve been waiting for a successor. We should have gotten one around October last year, but the entire year went by without any official acknowledgment of its existence.
It still isn’t official yet, but with all of the rumors we’ve been hearing, we know it is going to come. It is very likely to be based on the Oppo Find N5—the same way the original OnePlus Open was based on the Oppo Find N3—and we’ve been hearing a lot about the next Oppo foldable. The latest is about its wireless charging, and yes, it’ll be fast.
The Oppo Find N5, and Likely the OnePlus Open 2, Will Come with 50W Wireless Charging
The OnePlus Open was virtually an Oppo Find N3 with OnePlus’ name stamped on it. Following that, the Oppo Find N5 is very likely to be almost identical to the OnePlus Open 2, and that means that we can use a lot of the rumors and leaks regarding the Oppo to see what the next OnePlus foldable is going to be like. My initial impression is that it could be the best foldable of the year—very likely to blow Samsung out of the water.
One notable exception on the spec sheet for OnePlus and Oppo’s 2023 foldables was wireless charging. The companies have taken their sweet time to release a successor, but it seems to be for a very good reason. Despite the fact that the Oppo Find N5 has been confirmed to be the thinnest foldable ever made, it is still going to fit wireless charging in there somehow. That’s not even the best part though.
You won’t get the regular 15W wireless charging that an OEM like Samsung is satisfied with. Nope. Oppo will go from a foldable with no wireless charging straight to one with 50W wireless charging. The best part is that just like the recent things we’ve heard about the upcoming foldable, is coming as official information from Zhou Yibao, an Oppo exec.
The Oppo Find N5 Is Confirmed for the Best Water Resistance for a Foldable
We only recently started seeing an IP69 rating become a regular thing in mainstream smartphones, and even though I don’t ever see my phone needing to undergo more than submersion, it’s nice to have the peace of mind that comes with a higher IP rating. The way foldables are built makes it extremely hard for them to be dust-resistant, but water resistance has become a staple. However, we’re yet to see one with an IPX9 rating.
That’s going to change with the launch of the Oppo Find N5. This isn’t a rumor, as once again, it comes from the official Weibo account of Zhou Yibao. The device is confirmed to be the first foldable to come with IPX6, IPX8, and the leading IPX9 certifications. That is incredibly impressive.
On top of being the thinnest foldable in the world, it looks like the Oppo Find N5, and consequently, the OnePlus Open 2, is about to be an absolute killer in 2025. We can’t wait for it to launch next month.
