Jeep Cars Are Getting Pop-up Warranty Ads


When is the last time you’ve received a cold call asking you to extend your car’s warranty? If you’ve ever wished it was actually your car that asked you to extend it every time you hit the brakes, then buy a Jeep.

Owners of newer Jeep models have reported receiving persistent, full-screen pop-up messages on their infotainment systems, urging them to purchase extended warranty plans. These notifications are appearing despite the vehicle having exceeded the mileage limit for such offers. One report by the owner of a 2022 Grand Cherokee took to Reddit to complain, noting the pop-up appeared every time the vehicle stopped, even after acknowledging the message by pressing “OK.” It’s not clear if this issue is also present on other Jeep models, or if it’s as annoying.

The owner stated the messages began appearing after the vehicle passed 36,000 miles, a threshold explicitly mentioned in the pop-up as the maximum mileage to qualify for the warranty. So it is actually pretty funny that the popups are actually appearing to people who aren’t eligible to claim the offer at all. The option to cease the pop-ups exists, but it is buried within the Jeep Connect website.

Jeep’s parent company, Stellantis, acknowledged the issue in a statement, attributing it to a “temporary software glitch” that affected the ability to opt out of the in-vehicle messages in a “few isolated cases.” The company claims the error has been corrected and that they are contacting affected customers. Still, while the pop-up might not misbehave anymore and be as annoying as it used to be, it still exists and, when it does pop up, it will take over your whole screen. So if you happen to have a Jeep and you did not know about this, you might want to look into opting out of this.
