Asus VivoBook Flip 14 Review: Strikes a balance between style, performance and innovation

Asus holds a special place in the foldable laptop segment, consistently pushing the boundaries. While foldable laptops are not a new concept, the Taiwanese company continues to refine and enhance this design with thoughtful additions that elevate user experience. The latest Asus VivoBook Flip 14 is no exception, seamlessly blending versatility and performance into a sleek and portable package.

Featuring a stunning OLED touchscreen, a robust 360-degree hinge, and next-generation AI capabilities, the laptop is designed to cater to both professionals and students. Let’s take a closer look at what makes the Asus VivoBook Flip 14 stand out.

Design

The Asus VivoBook Flip 14 boasts an elegant and refined design that immediately captures attention. Weighing approximately 1.5kg and measuring just 1.69cm in thickness, it is incredibly lightweight and portable. The aluminium alloy construction, available in a sophisticated Matte Gray finish, enhances durability while maintaining a modern aesthetic. The simple yet stylish logo placement adds to its premium appeal.

Beyond aesthetics, the laptop ensures functionality with a well-thought-out port selection. Users can find a Thunderbolt 4 USB-C port, a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port, a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A port, an HDMI 2.1 TMDS, a microSD card reader, and an audio combo jack. I personally liked the availability of such connectivity options because sometimes the companies tend to miss out on these white going after the aesthetics.

The 360-degree hinge allows for effortless transitions between different usage modes, including laptop, tablet, stand, and tent configurations. The screen auto-rotates depending on the orientation, making it ideal for presentations, creative tasks, and entertainment. Additionally, the laptop meets US military-grade durability standards, ensuring it can withstand daily wear and tear with ease.

Keyboard

The keyboard on the VivoBook Flip 14 is designed with comfort and efficiency in mind. Featuring the Asus ErgoSense design, the keys have a 19.05mm pitch, 1.7mm key travel, and a 0.2mm dish-shaped indentation to provide a comfortable and responsive typing experience. The backlit keyboard is particularly useful for low-light environments, allowing users to work or study effortlessly regardless of the setting. Additionally, the keyboard includes a dedicated Copilot key, granting quick access to AI-driven features for enhanced productivity.

Touchpad

The laptop’s touchpad is equally impressive, offering a spacious 127.0 x 78.47 mm surface for smooth navigation. Asus has integrated a hydrophobic coating and a high-end PVD anti-fingerprint coating to ensure a consistently smooth touch response, even after prolonged use. Asus Smart Gestures are also supported, allowing users to quickly access settings and applications with intuitive multi-finger gestures.

Display

The Asus VivoBook Flip 14 is equipped with a vibrant 14-inch OLED touchscreen display, delivering a resolution of 1920×1200 in a 16:10 aspect ratio. The display supports a refresh rate of 60 Hz and boasts up to 500 nits of brightness, ensuring crisp visuals with vivid colours. Asus Lumina OLED technology enhances contrast and colour accuracy, making it perfect for creative professionals and content consumers. Additionally, TÜV Rheinland certification ensures reduced blue light emissions, minimising eye strain during prolonged usage.

For students and office workers, the touchscreen functionality provides an added layer of convenience, especially in tablet mode. The laptop supports Asus Pen 2.0, a stylus with 4096 pressure levels and interchangeable pen tips for a natural writing and drawing experience. While the touchscreen is a valuable feature, it does require frequent cleaning due to fingerprint smudges.

Camera

The VivoBook Flip 14 is equipped with an FHD IR camera, offering crisp video quality for virtual meetings and online classes. Windows Studio Effects further enhance video calls with features such as Eye Contact Enhanced and Portrait Light, improving visual clarity and engagement. The camera also includes a magnetic-assist privacy shutter, ensuring security when the camera is not in use.

Performance

The new VivoBook Flip 14 is powered by the Intel Core Ultra 5 256V processor, designed with a next-generation system-on-chip (SoC) architecture. The processor integrates performance cores and efficient cores, reducing power consumption while maintaining exceptional performance. With up to 16 GB of LPDDR5X-8533 MHz memory and a 512 GB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD, the laptop ensures seamless multitasking and rapid data access.

The inclusion of Intel Arc Graphics 140V enhances gaming and creative workloads, while the Neural Processing Unit (NPU) significantly improves AI-driven applications. The laptop also supports Asus Fan Profiles, allowing users to customise fan speeds and optimize cooling for different tasks. With up to 30W TDP in Performance Mode, users can enjoy sustained high performance without excessive heat buildup.

Windows and AI

Running on Windows 11 Home, the Asus VivoBook Flip 14 comes with a suite of AI-powered features that enhance productivity and user experience. Copilot in Windows provides AI-driven assistance for various tasks, while Asus-exclusive AI applications further streamline workflows. Windows Studio Effects, integrated into the operating system, improves video conferencing experiences, and Asus StoryCube leverages AI for smarter photo and video management.

Speaker

The VivoBook Flip 14 is equipped with dual built-in speakers featuring Smart Amplifier technology. Supporting Dolby Atmos, the laptop delivers an immersive audio experience with rich, detailed sound. The 360-degree adaptive audio system ensures optimal sound quality regardless of the laptop’s orientation, making it ideal for multimedia consumption and online meetings.

Battery

A 70 Wh battery powers the VivoBook Flip 14. During my time with the laptop, it lasted 8-9 hours straight on a single charge, carrying me throughout the office hours. The laptop features fast-charging technology as well allowing it to be powered up completely in a short span, ensuring minimal downtime. The inclusion of USB-C Easy Charge further enhances convenience, allowing users to charge the laptop with various USB-C chargers, including power banks and airline chargers.
