The PlayStation 5 is an impressive gaming console that delivers excellent performance out of the box. However, you can enhance your gaming experience by pairing it with some of the best PS5 accessories on the market.
What to Look for in a PS5 Accessory
Although the PS5 comes ready to play out of the box, the only included accessory you get is a single DualSense controller. So, you essentially get a blank slate while choosing your accessories. Fortunately, there is a thriving ecosystem of PS5 accessories on the market, most of which work with the regular PS5, PS5 Slim, and PS5 Pro.
When buying an accessory for the PS5, your biggest consideration is its compatibility. Make sure your purchase will work with your console. Secondly, you want to stick with reputed manufacturers to ensure you get a quality product and access proper after-sales support.
Moreover, you will need to focus on specific feature sets based on individual accessories. For example, things like re-mappable back buttons, adaptive triggers, battery life, haptic feedback, and performance are important for controllers. Similarly, audio quality, microphone performance, and comfort are crucial for headsets. In other accessories, internal SSDs must meet Sony’s compatibility requirements, and controller chargers should be able to charge one or more controllers seamlessly and safely.
Finally, your budget will play a significant role in any purchase. Fortunately, suitable PS5 accessories are available across different price points.

Pretty customizable |

Lots of swappable parts |
Lower battery life than regular DualSense |
Good software integration |
Sony’s bundled PS5 controller, the DualSense, is pretty good and will do the job for many gamers. However, if you are looking to upgrade and want a pro-grade controller to improve your PS5 gaming experience, it’s hard to go wrong with the DualSense Edge.
As you can guess from the name, the DualSense Edge comes from Sony. This little detail is one of the reasons why the Edge can stand out from the third-party options. The company has deeply integrated the functionality of the Edge hardware into the PS5 software, which is simply impossible for third-party makers.
In addition to all the features of the regular DualSense controller, it comes with programmable inputs, mappable back buttons, and function buttons. These function buttons are pretty nifty and allow you to switch between different controller profiles on the fly. You can also fine-tune stick sensitivity and dead zones, or set the travel distance of your triggers. Plus, you can swap out select parts if needed. The most interesting of the swappable modules are the analog sticks. If, at some point, these sticks start suffering from stick drift, you can just swap them out with new ones. There is no need to buy a new controller.
The DualSense Edge is shipped in a nice hard-shell case and is bundled with a small selection of accessories and interchangeable bits. Unfortunately, it has a lower battery life than the regular DualSense and is almost triple the cost. You can buy it in three versions, including a Midnight Black variant that starts shipping in mid-February 2025.

A Third-Party Controller Option: Scuf Reflex Pro

Cons |

Four reprogrammable back paddles |
Expensive |
Enhanced grip |
No way to tweak trigger travel |
Decent battery life |
If Sony’s DualSense controller isn’t doing it for you, the Reflex Pro from Scuf is an excellent third-party alternative. Although it feels almost the same as the DualSense, it has some welcome upgrades. You get the option for up to four back paddles that you can map to any control button, depending on your needs. A nifty profile button on the back allows you to map these and save up to three different combinations. You can also remove all the back paddles if you don’t find them helpful.
Another big customization option is swapping the concave thumbsticks with the included short or long convex ones. The Reflex Pro also comes with rubbery grips for those long gaming sessions.
You also get adaptive triggers in other features. However, unlike in the DualSense Edge, you cannot tweak the trigger travel.
Battery life is decent and in line with the regular Sony DualSense. You can charge the controller using a USB cable or a charging station. However, slotting it in a charging station made for the DualSense takes a bit of effort.
Finally, there are tons of color and design options to choose from to match your aesthetic.

Can charge two controllers simultaneously |
Can take a bit of getting used to |
Sleek design |
|
Bundled with a power supply |
Sony’s official Dualsense Charging Station is your best bet for a stress-free way to charge up to two DualSense controllers, including the Edge. As it comes with its own power supply, you don’t have to worry about connecting your controller to the PS5 or dealing with cables.
It also looks clean, and your controllers rest perfectly on the station. The charging speed remains the same as if you were charging your controller by directly connecting it to a PS5. So you are not losing anything in the charging performance.
The DualSense Charging Station’s sleek design matches the PS5’s, so it doesn’t look out of place in your setup. Moreover, it is reasonably priced. However, one thing to note about the Sony charger is that slotting the controllers in the station can take some getting used to, and if you aren’t careful, you may damage the charging pins.
If you prefer a charging solution that accepts power over USB-C instead of a barrel-style pin or is more affordable than the Sony offering, the OIVO PS5 Controller Charger is a good alternative. It resembles the Sony Charging Station and is bundled with a power brick. It can also juice up DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers.

Comfortable to use |
Built for gamers, the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless is a solid option for the PS5. It’s a comfortable over-ear type headset with a retractable mic. Its base station comes with two USB ports, which you can use to connect to the PS5. The base station uses a 2.4GHz wireless connection with the headset, but Bluetooth support is available if you want to connect to your mobile devices. The base station also allows you to tweak the various headset settings, including EQ and active noise cancellation transparency, to meet your needs.
Although the sound quality is decent out of the box, with an impressive low-end sound, you can improve overall audio quality significantly by adjusting the EQ. It can also deliver simulated surround sound and works seamlessly with PS5’s Tempest 3D Audio. You feel the direction of the sound during your gameplay sessions. The included retractable mic is also pretty decent. Active noise cancellation support is another highlight of the headset, as it provides potent noise cancellation.
Moreover, SteelSeries bundles two batteries with the Arctis Nova Pro Wireless, allowing you to keep the spare charged for swapping when the headset battery dies. In addition to directly juicing the batteries, you can use the built-in USB-C port to top up the headset battery.

Sony allows gamers to install an M.2 NVMe SSD in the PS5 to expand the storage up to an additional 8TB. You can download, copy, and launch games from this SSD. So, if your PS5 storage is getting full, the WD_Black SN850X is an impressive M.2 NVMe SSD that meets all compatibility requirements of PS5 usage.
It’s available in four storage sizes, from 1TB to 8TB, allowing you to pick the size that meets your needs. It’s also ridiculously fast, with claimed read speeds of up to 7300MBps for 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB sizes. The 8TB model is marginally slower, with a claimed read speed of 7,200MBps.
If you don’t already own an SSD heat sink or want to buy one separately, WD offers a variant with a bundled heatsink that fits your PS5 perfectly. It’s widely loved and delivers excellent performance.
Pricing is in line with the offerings from other reputed manufacturers.
PS5 also supports external storage solutions to store any games you aren’t actively playing, as you can’t launch games from external storage. So, if you want an external SSD, WD’s P40 Game Drive is an excellent solution. It’s fully compatible with the PS5 and available in 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB sizes.

Comes with a shoulder strap and grab handle |
Are you looking to carry the PS5 with you? The Zadii Hard Shell Carrying Case is an excellent option for doing so safely and securely. As the name suggests, it’s a hard-shell case, meaning it will provide top-notch protection against mishaps.
It has two primary compartments: One to store up to two controllers, the base, and accessories, and the other to keep the console. A thick divider separates both compartments, so you don’t have to worry about accessories getting trampled by the console or vice versa. There is also a Velcro strap to hold the console in place during your travels.
Other features include a zipper compartment for any other accessories, soft lining to avoid surface scratches and a shoulder strap for carrying the case. The case also includes a grab handle. Notably, it’s only compatible with the PS5 Disc or Digital versions and will not work with the PS5 Slim.
However, the Trunab Gaming Console Backpack is a good alternative if you prefer a backpack form factor. Besides the PS5, up to two controllers, accessories, and game discs, it can store up to a 15.6-inch laptop. It’s reasonably priced and is made from nylon with a foam liner. More importantly, it can store all PS5 variants.
