One cool thing about phone plans is that you can have one account that has a bunch of different lines on it. Whether you need a business number and a personal number or you want to make sure that everyone in the household has a line, having multiple lines on one account can be incredibly convenient.
However, in some cases, the people on the other lines might be responsible for their own phone bills. That could be relatives or friends. Normally, you’d have to do some quick math to figure out how much they owe and get them to pay the account holder, but with the new SplitPay feature, getting them to pay up is going to be so much easier.
AT&T Introduces SplitPay; Makes Your Phone Bill Management a Lot Easier
Let me paint a picture. You live with a sibling, a cousin, and a friend, all in one house. For some reason, you decide the best way to handle your cell phone service is to divvy up lines under a single account. That cleans things up a bit, but when it comes time to pay the phone bill, things might get a little messy. You’ll have to turn into a collections agent, do the appropriate calculations, and communicate with everyone when it’s time to pay.
That can be rather inconvenient. If only there was a way for everyone to handle their payments despite having different lines. If that’s your train of thought right now, then there’s good news for you. AT&T has just introduced a new feature called SplitPay. The name sort of gives away what it is made for, but SplitPay makes it a whole lot easier to manage your bill payments among multiple people, whether friends or family.
This will help automate a lot of aspects of payments from multiple people. The others will be notified when their respective bills are due, and they’ll be given a payment link to settle things through. However, one thing to note is that if one of the others doesn’t pay up when they should, you, as the account holder, will still be responsible for any consequences of non-payment, such as account suspension.
How Do I Set Up SplitPay in My AT&T Account?
If you like the sound of what you’ve just heard, you might want to get your AT&T account and its multiple lines sorted right away. I understand if you do, and here are the steps that you need to follow to get additional payers set up.
- Go to AT&T SplitPay. You may be accessed to sign in if you haven’t already.
- Choose who the primary payer is. This is typically the account holder. Whoever it is has the responsibility to make sure the entire bill is paid each month, even in the event of other payers defaulting.
- You can also choose other lines that you want to have as additional payers. This is where you’ll enter the relevant friends and/or family members.
- Once all the payers are set up, you can then assign lines and devices to the payers. Quite naturally, you will assign each payer to their respective lines and devices. This will create a group of lines/devices, of which that person will be notified when it is time to pay for them.
- Once you’ve assigned all the lines and devices appropriately, press Continue.
- Follow the remaining steps to complete the process.
Remember that certain devices, such as some wearables and tablets, can’t receive text messages when their payments are due. In those cases, it is very important that you don’t leave those devices unassigned—make sure they’re paired with the appropriate person.
