Apple Store goes down ahead of iPhone 16e preorders

Apple’s latest Store Down message

As usual for an Apple release, the online version of the Apple Store has temporarily gone offline, in preparation for preorders of the iPhone 16e.

Launched on February 19, the iPhone 16e is the latest iPhone in Apple’s range. The spiritual successor to the iPhone SE, the new entry-level model will soon be available to preorder.

During the announcement, Apple said preorders for the iPhone 16e start on February 21, with availability of the model from February 28.

To get ready for preorders, Apple has taken the online Apple Store offline for a short while. This is typical of Apple as it makes website changes, frequently when new products are announced or when sales commence.

It is unknown when the Apple Store will go live once again, but it should be in a short while. Once the online Apple Store goes live once again, customers will be able to start preordering their handsets.

Starting from $599, the iPhone 16e is offered in a choice of black or white options, as well as capacities from 128GB to 512GB.

Packing a 6.1-inch OLED display with Face ID in a notch, the iPhone 16e is a massive update over the iPhone SE 3. It’s equipped with a rear 48MP camera that can act as a 12MP 2x telephoto on command.

Powered by the A18 chip, it has the 16-core Neural Engine and full support for Apple Intelligence features. This includes Genmoji and Image Playground, Writing Tools, ChatGPT access via Siri, and even Visual Intelligence via the Action button.

The new model also has Apple’s satellite-based services, including Emergency SOS via Satellite, Messages via Satellite, and Roadside Assistance via Satellite.
