Apple subsidiary Beats by Dre has partnered with New York designer Sandy Liang to create a limited-edition version of the Beats Solo 4 headphones.
The partnership with Liang leans on the designer’s nostalgic and playful aesthetic to add a new design to the Beats Studio Buds. In this release, it consists of a metallic silver base with a hand drawn pink ribbon design stretched across the headband.
The Beats logo on the earcups is also pink to match the bow.
“I’ve always been drawn to the way nostalgia and modernity can coexist, and working with Beats felt like the perfect way to bring that to life,” said Liang. “I wanted this collaboration to feel personal— something that blends function with a sense of playfulness and personality.”
The designer concludes that there was a need to make the Solo 4 feel “more than just headphones, but an accessory that brings joy.”
Born in New York and a student of both the Rhode Island School of Design and the Parsons School of Design, Liang is best known for her work that harkens back to her childhood. Inspired by media such as Sailor Moon and other cartoons, Sandy Liang has become a nostalgia-centric brand that focuses on playfulness.
The campaign for the headphones has Liang sitting with Jeannie Sui Wonders for “A Conversation on Music + Fashion” at Apple SoHo on March 6th. Spots at the Today at Apple session can be registered in advance.
Aside from the appearance, the Solo 4 offers the same specifications as the standard model, including a lightweight foldable design and up to 50 hours of battery life, as well as spatial audio with head tracking.
Available now from Apple’s website in the U.S., U.K., and Japan, the limited edition Sandy Liang model is priced at $199.99. Limited quantities will also be available from the New York City Sandy Liang store and Apple SoHo, from March 6.
The partnership is the latest Beats has secured for its products with prominent designers, celebrities, and brands. Previous releases include the updated Beats Pill in colors selected by Kim Kardashian, and Beats Solo 4 branded with Minecraft graphics.
