Apple has announced a new immersive content experience for the Apple Vision Pro in the form of a Metallica concert, which will be available on March 14.
With high-resolution 180-degree video from the band’s M72 tour in Mexico City, viewers will be able to experience performances of three full Metallica songs: “Whiplash,” “One,” and “Enter Sandman.”
Apple’s latest immersive experience, simply dubbed “Metallica,” will offer “unprecedented access” to James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, and Robert Trujillo, from wide-angle views of the band to points as close as the famed Snake Pit. The announcement was posted on the Apple website.
Apple built a unique stage layout with a total of 14 Apple Immersive Video cameras. The iPhone maker used “a mix of stabilized cameras, cable-suspended cameras, and remote-controlled camera dolly systems that moved around the stage.” The band’s performance was recorded from multiple angles, allowing for a unique immersive experience.
Apple’s Vice President of Marketing and Communications, Tor Myhren, said that the company was “thrilled to collaborate with Metallica on a concert unlike any before it.” Myhren added that the immersive experience lets you “feel like you’re right there: front row, backstage, and even on stage with one of the biggest bands of all time.”
Metallica’s drummer, Lars Ulrich, also detailed his experience with the Apple immersive concert in an interview with Apple Music‘s Zane Lowe, which is available on the SXSW YouTube channel.
Users of the Apple Vision Pro will be able to access the “Metallica” immersive experience on March 14, as it will be available in the Apple TV app at no cost. Customers can also experience the concert at Apple Store locations, as the company offers demos of the Apple Vision Pro headset.
