Samsung is the most prominent manufacturer for foldable smartphones. Its clamshell Z Flip is great for people who want a phone that’s cool and fashionable, while the Z Fold is the best option if you want something that is a lot better for productivity. This year will mark the seventh-gen for the South Korean OEM’s foldables, and that’s impressive.
The Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 will launch in summer, and while we know what to expect from their designs, we’ve learned a little more about their specs. A certification has shown off their charging speeds, but if you know Samsung, you know what to expect. Additionally, the new Galaxy Flip FE model might stick with Samsung in the chip department.
Despite the A Series Embracing Faster Charging, the Upcoming Z Foldables Will Stick to 25W
If there’s one thing that Samsung has become very predictable with when it comes to its higher-priced smartphones, it’s a stubbornness surrounding charging speeds. The OEM introduced 45W charging in 2019 with the Galaxy Note 10+, and ever since then, it hasn’t surpassed that charging speed, even in phones as expensive as the Galaxy S25 Ultra. In fact, its most expensive device, the Z Fold 6, only gets 25W wired charging. A shame.
Well, 2025 seems like a year where a lot can change in that regard. After all, for the first time ever, Samsung brought 45W charging to the A series, which makes it seem like the brand is ready to switch things up to some degree. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Z Fold 7, naturally, would serve as the first opportunity to test that theory. Perhaps they can leave the 25W fast charging of their predecessors behind.
Unfortunately, and unsurprisingly, if I’m to be honest, nothing is going to change in that department for Samsung’s 2025 foldables. The devices have passed through China’s 3C regulatory board, exposing their charging speeds to still stick to a measly 25W despite the extravagant cost of the phones. If a $500 A-series phone can get the upgrade, what’s the excuse for Samsung?
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip FE Could Be the Only Phone Using the Exynos 2500 This Year
Disregarding the cries of the masses, Samsung has continued to forge ahead with its Exynos chips. While the Exynos 2400 closed the gap with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 pretty impressively, they were still mostly in different leagues. Regardless of improvements though, it was still surprising when the OEM’s upcoming Exynos 2500 was rumored to be the sole chip for the S25 family. Low chip yields prevented that from panning out though.
However, it seems Samsung refuses to let the Exynos 2500 die. According to a report from The Bell, the Samsung Galaxy Flip FE, a newly-introduced and more affordable option, will only come with the Exynos 2500.
To be honest, I don’t actually think that’s a bad thing. If the the Exnyos 2500 is a good enough chip that Samsung planned to put it in the S25 Ultra, I don’t think the Exynos will fall ridiculously far behind it. This FE model is expected to launched sometime after the others do, which seems to be a new strategy of Samsung’s.
