T-Mobile’s Free Line Promo Is Causing a Whole Lot of Problems

I don’t think customers will ever say no when a product or service that they use drops an offer or deal in their laps. For select users on T-Mobile, the network carrier provided them with the opportunity to claim a free line for a limited amount of time—it’s been a while since the company has offered free lines, so needless to say, it was received well.

However, now that some users have started to claim or attempted to claim a free line, things have gotten pretty rocky. Some users simply aren’t able to claim the offer, and others who have been successful have faced one problem or another. Let’s talk about the situation.

T-Mobile’s Free Line Offer Was Announced Right After an Unpopular Price Hike

As consumers, we already pay a lot of money to keep all of our digital services and subscriptions alive. Unfortunately, the companies behind these services don’t make it easier with how frequently they choose to increase their prices.

This time around, T-Mobile is the one at fault. Customers who have stuck around on the brand’s legacy plans for years on end are being “rewarded” for their loyalty by having a $5 monthly price increase dropped on them for each line they have. After a couple of lines, that amounts to quite a lot of money extra over the year.

However, very soon after T-Mobile made that official, it announced that it was rewarding eligible customers with the chance to claim a free line. The carrier used to offer free lines frequently but hardly does that anymore, so needless to say, this announcement was a popular one.

Some Users Are Struggling to Claim Their Free Line Despite Being Eligible

However, now that some eligible users have attempted to claim their free line through the T-Life app, they’ve faced barriers preventing it from happening.

As we mentioned in our earlier report on the deal, it seems users with at least two free lines are receiving access to the offer but, on trying to claim it, simply can’t. However, some folks were able to reach out to T-Mobile customer support via social media or phone and get the free line added, even though they already had at least two existing free lines.

Some Users Are Facing Disappearing Lines After Claiming This Offer

However, the headache doesn’t exist only for those trying to claim the deal. Some who were successfully able to claim their free line received messages informing them that a pre-existing free line had been removed—and there was no warning beforehand indicating that was going to happen. Obviously, that’s enough to put customers at unease.

However, it seems that this isn’t something that actually needs to be a concern. Some users suggest that this message is a normal part of the process, particularly when your new line is being added to a plan that you were not previously on. You should expect to see your existing free lines added to the new plan sometime after. T-Mobile has confirmed that your existing free lines are not being purged for good.
