The massive sale of bitcoins by the German government is sparking controversy. Joana Cotar, a federal MP, is opposing this decision, which she believes is harmful to the national economy and the crypto market. Her stance reignites the debate on the strategic role of Bitcoin for Germany.

A Controversial Sale of Seized BTC

The German government has begun liquidating a fraction of the 50,000 bitcoins seized from the illegal site Movie2k.to. This action has alarmed several parliamentarians, including Joana Cotar, who perceive bitcoin as a strategic asset for the country.

In an official communication addressed to policymakers, Ms. Cotar strongly recommended that the government refrain from rushing to sell these state-owned bitcoins. She considers these assets to be a strategic national reserve that should be preserved.

The MP goes further by suggesting that the queen of cryptos could be a valuable tool for diversifying the German Treasury’s assets. She sees it as a means to protect against inflation and stimulate economic innovation.

A Plea for Bitcoin Adoption

Beyond her criticism, Joana Cotar actively advocates for a better understanding and adoption of Bitcoin in Germany. She has notably launched the “Bitcoin in the Bundestag” program to raise awareness among her parliamentary colleagues about the advantages of crypto.

The MP advocates for a balanced approach, combining legal security and innovation. She emphasizes the importance of combating risks such as money laundering while preserving the libertarian aspects of Bitcoin.

Vehemently opposed to the ECB’s digital euro, Cotar sees Bitcoin as a credible alternative to ensure the financial freedom of citizens. Her unwavering commitment to the first crypto contrasts with her disinterest in other crypto assets.

Joana Cotar’s stance reignites the debate on the place of Bitcoin in the German economic strategy. While the government seems to favor immediate liquidity, the MP calls for a longer-term vision. Time will tell if her plea to make BTC a national strategic asset will be heeded.
