Acer announces four new education-centric Chromebooks with durable designs

    Acer has just announced a quartet of new Chromebooks aimed at the education sector and featuring a mix of Intel and Arm-based processors. The new models boast durable designs and consist of the Chromebook 311 and 511, and Spin 511 and 512 and priced from $299/€269.

    Sporting traditional clamshell designs with durability in mind, the Chromebook 311 and 511 are both powered by ARM-based processors from the two main mobile chip makers, Qualcomm and MediaTek. The Chromebook 311 is powered by MediaTek’s MT8183 octa-core processor and a claimed 20-hour battery life. Scheduled to launch in North America this month, you’ll be able to pick one up from $299.

    The Chromebook 511 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7c Compute Platform that also brings 4G/LTE connectivity and up to 20-hours usage on a single charge. Slated for an April launch, the Chromebook 511 is priced from $399.

    The convertible Chromebook Spin 512 and Spin 511 feature the latest in durable, serviceable designs that make them ideal for the school environment:

    • MIL-STD 810H rating (Sand and Dust testing based on MIL-STD 810F). Wider brackets to protect the display and reinforced I/O ports.
    • Mechanically anchored keys that are difficult to remove and easy to replace.
    • Spill-resistant keyboard with a gutter system that routes up to 11 fluid ounces of water away from internal components.
    • Both have Antimicrobial Corning Gorilla Glass display, ideal for education settings where students share devices.

    • Powered by the latest N4500 and N5100 Intel® processors.
    • Zero-touch enrollment for streamlined rollout by IT.

    The Acer Chromebook Spin 512 (R853TA) has a productivity-boosting 12-inch 3:2 aspect ratio HD+ IPS display. It also has an antimicrobial agent in the coating on the keyboard touchpad and palm area that is proven to show a consistently high microbial reduction rate against a broad range of bacteria.
