Apple last year introduced new hearing health features for its AirPods Pro 2 wireless earbuds. Since the features require approval from health regulators, they’ve been rolled out region by region. Starting today, these features are now available to AirPods users in four additional countries.
Apple expands AirPods Pro 2 hearing health features to more countries
As confirmed by Apple, the AirPods Pro 2 hearing health features are now available to users in Australia, Brazil, Colombia, and Saudi Arabia. There are two different features that AirPods users can take advantage of.
With Hearing Test, users can take a test in about five minutes using AirPods Pro 2 and an iPhone or iPad running iOS 18. Once the test is complete, the device shows the user a summary of their results, including details about the hearing level in each ear, as well as hearing health recommendations.
To support users with mild to moderate hearing loss, AirPods Pro 2 can also be used in Hearing Aid mode. iOS creates a hearing profile based on the test results to turn the earbuds into a clinical-grade hearing aid. “This helps them better engage in conversations and keeps them connected to the people and environment around them,” the company says.
The custom hearing profile is also applied to music, movies, games, and phone calls across all the user’s devices without the need to change any settings.
The new hearing health features can be found within the AirPods settings on iOS. It’s worth noting that they’re only available for AirPods Pro 2, both Lightning and USB-C models. Apple says an AirPods firmware update may be required to enable the features in the listed countries.
