AirTag lost baggage feature comes to China Airlines

AirTag lost baggage feature

You’ve long been able to share the location of one of your AirTags with family and friends, but an update in November of last year let you create a link to share with anyone you like.

The most obvious application is to share the link with an airline when your baggage has gone astray. Prior to that travelers often suffered the experience of their airline telling them their misplaced bag was in one place while they could clearly see it was somewhere else.

Apple initially named 17 airlines which had agreed to support the feature, integrating the links with their baggage-tracing systems.

In the coming months, more than 15 airlines serving millions of people globally — including Aer Lingus, Air Canada, Air New Zealand, Austrian Airlines, British Airways, Brussels Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Eurowings, Iberia, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Lufthansa, Qantas, Singapore Airlines, Swiss International Air Lines, Turkish Airlines, United, Virgin Atlantic, and Vueling — will begin accepting Find My item locations as part of their customer service process for locating mishandled or delayed bags.

The rollout has been unfolding since then, with both Virgin Atlantic and American Airlines launching their support back in February.

China Airlines launch

Apple said that the rollout would extend to airlines beyond those listed in the initial press release, and Liberty Times reports that China Airlines is the latest to support the handy feature.

China Airlines cooperated with Apple to integrate the airline’s baggage system and the item tracker AirTag functionality, and launched the […] Apple AirTag Luggage Tracking Application to more rapidly find lost luggage.

The company says that this is one of a number of digital initiatives recently launched by the airline.
