Johnny Appleseed Days, the oldest harvest festival in California, will return to the ridge this weekend.
The event, which was first held in 1888, has sold out its vendor space.
The event returns to Cherry Ashpark, Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Johnny Appleseed Days usually has pies made by local volunteers, but this year because of a lack of a space to bake the pies and not enough volunteers, the pies will be baked in Paradise by the pie pavilion sponsor Save Mart and will be served in the Save Mart Pie Pavilion.
The Paradise Chamber of Commerce says it expects about 5,000 people to attend the harvest festival over the weekend.
Visitors get to prepare and get Do-it-yourself Apple Pie kits from Noble Orchards. Those sold out in 2019.
They will also receive a limited edition commemorative tea towel and super-secret Paradise Apple Pie Spice mix.
The annual event once again will have local businesses on hand to share their goods and services; artisans from all over the state will be selling a variety of handicrafts.
The family-friendly event will once again have a children’s area sponsored by the Paradise Unified School District that features face painting, nostalgic games and Johnny Appleseed himself will be there with fruit and stories.
Event organizers say that hometown entertainment will be on hand in the gazebo stage throughout the event.
In addition to the pies that are being served, a food court will offer outdoor seating areas and a variety of food.
